2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

2:21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
2:22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
2:23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

Good that this was removed from the History forum.

Even though it would make more sense than just one couple, 7 couples still wouldn't be enough for the genetic diversity we see today. You need at least 10,000 people:

Theistic evolutionist Dr. Francis Collins cited the “10,000 founders” claim in his 2006 book The Language of God: A Scientist Presents Evidence for Belief, He wrote that all humans “descended from a common set of founders, approximately 10,000 in number, who lived about 100,000 to 150,000 years ago.

Francis Collins, The Language of God: A Scientist Presents Evidence for Belief (New York: Free Press, 2006)

Dr Francis Collins is a Christian scientist.

There are quite a few more than 7 colors in a rainbow.

Yes, the rainbow colors are a continuum of frequencies in the optical EM band.

The truth is, we cannot see all the frequencies of light due to limitations in our eyes optical receptors. Our brain 'paints in' many of the subtleties of frequency, that is why some have color blindness and also why color based optical illusions work.

The classical 7 rainbow colors: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet.

Although, I wonder if Indigo really ranks as a separate color. I think they were just padding things out to get the magical number 7.

That's the thing. Even if we were to say, 'okay, there's seven couples, one couple on each continent,' that still doesn't make much sense. If those seven starting groups aren't able to meet up with one another and are all spread apart and essentially isolated then it still presents the same problem as there only being one male and female couple, doesn't it? At least until those groups are able to meet up and interact, you're still looking at a genetic bottleneck of sorts, even given the benefit of the doubt of there being more than one 'Adam and Eve.' If they can't reach each other, it makes no difference.

I actually tried to find some information on what the minimum number of people required would be in order for there to be no genetic problems but couldn't seem to find any single answer. The best one I saw was from the... 'Tech Museum,' some sort of 'ask a geneticist' type of thing on their page. I feel bad I can't find the link now, but he suggested the number required only being along the lines of 160. Eighty women and eighty men. But he goes on to say it also depends on whatever genetic problems those people might have, even if it wasn't apparent at the time, over a few generations those problem could easily crop up. I believe it was also said that if you had the right kind of screening equipment and used careful planning and actually tried to engineer people then you may be able to get by with less.

There was a Star Trek Next Gen episode that I'm reminded of that dealt with this kind of problem. They didn't have that many people, but they controlled every couple and decided on the best match and so forth to produce the most optimum offspring. Of course, it seems unreasonable to suggest there would have been that level of planning if we're supposed to be going back to the beginning of the human species.

In Hebrew, the translation of "Adam" was ADAM which was general and could have been 'Mankind" or "Human".

Then there is "Ha' Adam"...which would be more singular as in "The Man".

There is "ISH" and "ISHSHAH" (Man and Woman, Man/Husband and Female/Wife)

There is also the "Land of Nod" where Cain was exiled to. Where he met others and started a family. (Where did they come from?)

Then there is also the argument that there is a "Sixth Day Creation" vs. "Eighth Day Creation"...

Earlier humans or humanoids....vs the 8th Day creation "Adam".

A lot of stuff going on

Also, lets not forget that when it comes to the 'land of Nod,' that Nod doesn't have to mean a specific place. 'Nod' in Hebrew means 'to wander' and as such it could simply mean 'those places where Cain wandered' rather than what we might think of as being a 'spot on the map.' Gen 4:16 says that Cain 'dwelt in the land of Nod, to the East of Eden' and so it could simply mean that when he left, he went East. Everywhere he went, everything outside of Eden would therefor have been 'Nod.'

And in Nod he met those "others". So who were they?

I wonder...

I also forgot about the Hebrew ETH/ESH Ha' Adam...or Ha'Adamah..

I forget the variants. It's been a long time since my scholarly days. I've forgotten so much

You're entirely correct when it comes to Adam. The fact that it is 'Ha'Adam' does indeed mean 'The Man.' The 'Ha' part could mean a number of things. It could be along the lines of a title, 'Ha'Adam' being 'The Man' in sense of being... maybe... the highest man, or... first among men, or any number of things. So going by that it might simply mean 'First Man' in the sense of being 'First AMONG Men' in the form of a chief or something along those lines. Or that his line of decent was the highest or... who knows?

It's actually similar, if we're talking about Adam and Eve, to the concept of Satan. Satan was of course 'HaSatan' rather than just Satan. It would mean the same thing, 'The Satan.' That sounds more like a title than a name. It could have been some kind of rival group to 'The Adams.' because we know that 'HaSatan' means 'The Adversary,' so rather than talking about individuals at all it could have to do with different groups of people.

The Hebrew is so ambiguous. I always hated that because it wasn't as easy as giving a last name like Joe Smith.

So even the best scholars are left with questions. Because the Hebrew only went so far.

But I do believe wholeheartedly there was an issue with "The Eve" and the Serpent being "Wholly Seduced" and what potentially came after.

If all of this happened, I would love to go back in a time machine and see what actually played out.

Sex between rival species? Geno-types? Pheno-types? Maybe some evil character space traveler who got down with the native cave girl?

I'll never know

Or maybe it's just a story to provide a moral base, using a "mystery" as its core. Like other creation myths.

Very well could be. A great story with mathematical and etymological intricacies though. They can't be discounted.

At one time I was wrapped up in this stuff. But it was WAY too deep once you dig in.

I said screw it and became an Agnostic.

Just like today many middle eastern nations even then did not record/recognize women and only recorded there names unless there was some important event tied to them.

it said Adam had many sons and daughters but they are not all named.

This is a good point, it was Christ whom introduced the concept that woman were equal to men when he was challenged about whose wife a woman whom had married seven brother's which had died one after another as each time she was left childless and under jewish law his brother was supposed to help his widow to concieve a son whom would then be recognised as the dead brothers son.

Jesus put it like this, "In the resurrection there is no difference between a man and a woman, you shall neither be given nor taken in marriage for those thing's are past away and you shall have a new body like the angels a celestial/heavenly/spiritual body".

Bit a glaring difference to a less spiritual religion which arose about 650 years later and told it's followers they would have eternal errection's and woman whom would remain pre pubescent virgins no matter how many time's they made love to them.

But even given this the christian church remained tainted by male dominance and female priest were sidelined and even written out of the history's in many cases, even in the old testament there are female prophet's such as the wife of Moses whom are mentioned so God did not discriminate only man did.

One other fact of christian tradition but not modern reimagined christianity, true long term old christianity which stem's from before the compilation of the bible under constantine to the very earliest verbaly tought gospels of the church, all the old/original church's still have the tradition of Mary as the Co Redemptrix with her son as she suffered what only a mother can seeing her son suffer as he did, it was her heart which was pierced by the sword's of sorrow with each wound inflicted upon him and her blood which also flowed from his wound's along with her tear's as well as God's his father's.

Also in the early pre constantine church they were more communal and smaller scale, shared wealth and no fat wealthy princes of the church or stinking right right wing TV evangelical preachers like those on TBN such as JH whom are only after your money and preach a twisted lie that God gives you money, he can but that is not what you are supposed to pray for and Christ said of the wealthy that they have had there reward here on earth and to build up your treasure in heaven instead by doing good work's but doing so with no wish to be seen doing it or known as a do gooder for by recieving praise and being seen as a great philanthropist he said they have also had there reward on earth, the only one whom matters when doing good in secret is God because he see's it and knows all.

Another thing about those right wing masochistic american protestant tv evangelists is that they are constantly attacking Socialist idiology and deliberatly ignore the fact Christ suffered poverty and homelessness with no were to lay his head, that he said if a man had two coat's and his brother had non that he should then give the coat he was not using to his brother, that for the rich to be redeemed rather than asking God for money they should sell all they own and give it to the poor and the needy then and take up there own cross and come and follow him.

He preached peaceful rejection of this world and it's rulers and said this world would persecute and hate his followers so in other word's they would be the poor and the downtrodden for his name sake and yet in truth there wealth in heaven would be beyond comprehension.

So also it is worth saying do not confuse modern American and indeed all Western Christianity including the Wealthy Catholic bishops living in palaces or even Church collections which seldom reach the poor and the needy with Actual Christianity, to see what a christian community looked like look no further than a true kibbutze, not one of those tourist thing's but one were they all looked after one another, shared what they had and worked for the common good in praise of God and faith in his son for the sacrifice he had made on there behalf knowing they were already saved by him.

Forget Marx, he was about justice for workers and in a time when there was no justice for workers which is now obviously coming back but the true father of socialism and Sexual equality (but not sexual immorality) was non other than Jesus Christ our lord.

As for standing up to the authoritys including those inside the church,

May I ask which book and passage and which version of the translation you are using to find that quote?

""In the resurrection there is no difference between a man and a woman, you shall neither be given nor taken in marriage for those thing's are past away and you shall have a new body like the angels a celestial/heavenly/spiritual body".

I don't see/can't find that anywhere in one passage like that. The closest I can find is: " For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven." That is the King James translation of "Mathew 22:30" But I can't find any version that uses the male/female translation you have used. The next closest thing I can find is Galatians 3:28:

"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus."

LABTECH767,This is the first reply I would have to say I agree with. I served as a missionary all by faith. I didn't have the required $30,000 to $40,000 a year support most mission organizations require before they will send you out. I felt called and I went out. For 15 years I served in the mission field all by faith. There were times we prayed over our last meal, and before the time for the next meal the lord supplied for our needs. So we never went hungry, my babies never went without diapers or food, we never had an abundance but we never went hungry or without what we needed.

One day I emailed the ministry of a multi-billion dollar a year ministry down in Texas and asked for two evangelistic videos to be given to us for use at some evangelistic film showings we were doing. One of the workers replied, "Gods people are never to be poor we will pray for you. Sorry but we can not give you to videos." I was very surprised they couldn't part with two videos that would not have cost them more than $3 to make and a couple more to send. Aparently they believe that they believe is a prosperity Gospel. the leader of that ministry has gotten so fat over the years I wonder that he has not died of something related to obesity.

But they have their reward today I will get mine I see the Lord in heaven.

The first time I asked God for a bible having never read it in a short prayer one was found the following day, now I am not a preacher and shall not get into my understanding of the bible but suffice it to say if it differ's from your own that is not my Problem and maybe you should seek out your own answer by asking the lord directly in prayer.
The New Body.

It is a very old argument about the nature of the Resurrection, some believe in the physical resurrection which is fully a reality if Christ decides to enact that but to do so in that way is to condemn you back to the clay and when he resurrected the dead body's he called to them as if they were merely asleep, his own body was not clay of course but word incarnate or rather spirit manifest as matter and his ascension with cloud's, well how many of us have experiences spirit's appearing like mist and shadow people.

Even back in the pre christian jewish world there were arguments about the nature the resurrection would take, some believed and believe both then and now that the resurrection would be litteral rising of the dead flesh which would then be changed into an incorruptable state but other's both then and now believe it is a transformation and the fallen flesh once utterly corrupted and not even there any more is past away but it is the spirit or soul that is resurrected.

Now I could get into what I personally have experienced which is best left for another thread for instance such as changes in my percieved reality which occur from time to time and which leave me feeling alien, perhaps in some sci fi like twist I have become unstuck in reality and am drifting but the truth is I do not know for certain how or why.

In my memory the bible I read was as I said were Jesus said to them "There shall is no difference between a man and a woman in the resurrection"+"neither given nor taken in marriage" and "You shall have a new celestial body like the angels".

Other alterations I have encountered in this reality disphasia include the very BOOK of Revelation taking on different passages and losing other's, for example Seven six seven man was a being in the version I read several time's before 1990 when these changes seemed to begin or to be more precise I noted the change in 1993, SEVEN THREESCORE AND SEVEN was the number of MAN (Race number) and a being whom was meant to come down from heaven and overcome the Beast whom had the number SIX THREESCORE AND SIX which it was explained was the number of A (Singular being) man which was the beast, back then Seven Threescore and Seven was most often mistranslated as 777 rather than 767 and so was one of the reason's this number was though to be of good fortune, also back then was a time of crisis and racial tension especially in south africa as white and black men argued in the closing day's of apartheid, one Eugene Terrablance the leader of the Boar seperatist movement whom were demanding there own country gave an interview to a bbc reporter in which he spoke about why there flag resembled a Nazi Swastika

He then went on record as claiming the African people were all Six Threescore and Six of 666 (Remember it is the number of a single individual and not a race number so this claim was impossible) and that the white men were Seven Seven Seven or 777 (note he got that wrong as well as it was Seven Threescore (three 20's) and Seven which is 767 if made numeric.

Of course new information has come to light showing that the 666 was not even that but a mistranslation of glyph's most closely resembling the Arabic word "In the Name of Allah", on this page is a visual comparison between the old greek letters or number and the arabic number, remember the revelation was written in early greek by John of Patmos.

But that is aside, all I can ask you is how many time's in your life have you seen something and when you look again it is suddenly wrong or not how YOU remember it, could reality be shifting or even could an entity, perhaps a devil be trying to manipulate the reality of man's perception, are we under the control of some corruption that need's to be removed now and fast.

Another example is the addition of passages I had never seen before such as this, which seem's to negate the sacrifice of christ and surrender soul's to evil

So what I am saying is even though I know this will alienate many of you I am speaking what I know is truth, not what is accepted as truth to you or even to fellow christian's, reality is either in flux, I am drifting between reality's or even some entity is manipulating humanity or even time on a quantum level and that entity is not good or wholesome but is definitely evil.

IF you want to think me crazy, fine do so but I am not lying to you this is exactly how I remember it, oh and in that interview with Eugene terrablance whom I remember being nicknamed The Boar in my time stream I jumped out of my chair in rage at his blasphemous claim's and racist belief's and I was at the time staunchly anti racist, I have no reason to make this up and make myself look a fool which many will not regard me as any way.

This is also why I chose 767 in my avatar name, nothing to do with boeing I am afraid, I am of course not him but I do remember it, another thing was that in my memory I may have mistranslated in my head but I read that passage about giving the rod of Iron to him that overcometh as being that Seven Threescore and Seven Man would have the rod of iron and goven the nation's with it smashing them as potsherds (Fine sand)+(so that only the kingdom of the lamb founded upon the rock would survive that coming tribulation and punishment intact).

Lastly to my fellow christian's, read the revelation as you always have, I am strange, maybe I am lost or maybe it is my mind that is at fault, I am not trying to add to the book or take away from it, those whom add to it are cursed and those that take away have erased there own names from the book of life (or the alpha and omega shall do so for them), what I have writen here is reality for me and isolated me which is horrible believe me but it is not lies just my reality may be somehow different from your's but I have the same god as you and hope in Christ to fix this for me and believe he shall, it is also possible I am simply ill, I have never taken drug's but somethign may have affected my brain and I did have head injury's in 1993 but still this is my reality as I remember it.

In the Bible it says the first man and woman was Adam and Eve. It doesn't say there were others, but it would make sense that there were. We also have to remember that stories have many meanings, symbolic, metaphorical, figurative, in a way to encode and explain deep truths that can only be understood by those who seek inner meaning. In many stories they don't go into great detail about every character's origin, but they may go into some detail into the main character's origin, as that is the story, the narrative, and the way to communicate the message, the moral, and the deeper metaphysical truth.

The truth is, the Bible is a complete lie.

Well that's your opinion, nobody is forcing or asking you to believe it. But you have zero proof and no idea whether or not it's a lie.

I thought I read in one book that a city of people started to build a tower that would reach the Heavens and before they could build it, God struck them all with different languages so they wouldn't be able to understand each other, and they couldn't finish. So they grouped into relative groups where the people of each group understood each other, and the groups all parted their separate ways. Something like that.
