Sorry, but the kids here see the militia and terrorists as their heroes, and want to be near them. That's part of being brought up in Palestine and the 'freedom struggle'. Early indoctrination and grooming to be future fighters or suicide bombers.

I once caught a cab with a Palestinian driver, and we talked about a spate of suicide bombings last year. He claimed that Palestine had at least 2,000,000 suicide bombers. Partly why he had left. I've often wondered why there isn't more migration out of the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Hardly ever met anyone from there.

How wonderful it is to see blowing oneself up as something to look up to. Perhaps there should be a cartoon in which the principal character comes back
to life after the act.

Yes, but Palestinian parents of those children are part of the issue of training children to look up to the zealots. It is an honor for the child (and hence the family) to be involved in this stuff when they are older. It's not exactly American middle class mentality.

In America, the heroes we present for our kids to worship are often sports figures who, in many cases, have a history of legal troubles.

No, I don't support palestinian suicide bombers, and, in fact, think such attacks hurt their cause, but an outsider can easily turn the table on American cultural norms... Too often, we elevate and glorify people in sports and enteratinment, while the engineers and workers who keep our country going are not even mentioned. Look at the War on Terrorism... A major asset in this war has been our robotic recon planes (Global Hawk and Predator). I have yet to see a story on TV that urges kids to become 'heroes' through the study of math, engineering, or robotics.

What I do see, though, is a media jumping through hoops to ignore the obvious cheating of frauds like Sammy Sosa.
