I've been following the presidential campaigns off and on and trying to decide which candidate would be the best choice. So far, I haven't seen one candidate that I'm particularly impressed with. Recently, though, I learned something about Bernie Sanders that has convinced me to give him my full support.

Sanders has been promoting the implementation of a single-payer health care system. As President, he would toss Obamacare and replace it with a "Medicare for all" system that he says would cost $1.38 trillion per year but save people and businesses more than $6 trillion over the next decade.

But that's not it.

He has taken direct aim at big banks and corporations and has introduced the "Too Big to Fail, Too Big to Exist Act," which would essentially identify banks considered too big to fail and give the treasury secretary a year to disassemble them.

But that's not it.

Sanders has pledged to hike taxes on the wealthy, including a progressive estate tax on the top 0.3% of Americans who inherit more than $3.5 million. He has promised to enact a tax on Wall Street speculators and raise the minimum wage to $15 by 2020. He has pledged to shut down trade policies NAFTA, CAFTA, PNTR with China and the Trans-Pacific Partnership, which would have mixed results but could bring more jobs back to the U.S.

But that's not it.

You see, what I've learned about Bernie Sanders is something very personal to me. Something that goes deeper than politics. Deeper than being a Socialist or Democrat or Republican. Sanders and I share something that I was not aware of until recently.

Bernie Sanders is Polish. I'm Polish. He has my full support.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't Bernie Sanders be consider Jewish? I don't think he has Polish ancestry, despite his father's family originating from Poland.

He was raised Jewish, but doesn't consider himself religious by any means. He believes in a god but that's about it.
Yeah he did some time on a kibbutz but he doesn't bleed Israeli blue and white. Surprisingly.

I'm not quite sure what you're saying. His father was born in Poland and his mother was born to Polish immigrants. I'm pretty sure that would put him in the category of being Polish. Being Jewish is no more relevant than being Catholic or Protestant.

I see what you're saying. My point being is that Jewish is a different ethnicity than Polish, and that Bernie Sanders ancestors would be more Jewish than Polish ethnic wise.

No, they would be American. My point being Polish is more than a nationally. It's an ethnicity. Which means that Bernie Sanders family might have little of compared to originating from Poland. It's like saying he would be Korean because his family originated there. Do you understand what I'm saying?

we have universal health care. You really can't complain. It's good to have. We pay 0 cents for it. And it provides everything. It's good to save money.

It's a different religion. Jew is not a race. He isn't Semitic by any type of racial standard.
He's a Pollack. That's the thing about being Of the Hebrew faith. They are so closed minded about it and want it to be an inbred thing that they made themselves appear as a distinct racial group. And I guess technically they are. Ashkenazi Jews have certain genetic differences and predispositions, but no more or less so than other regional ones due to geography and not religion.

I agree because it's confusing what is Jew, their genetics, and my questioning on ethnic identities like Polish. For me I want to understand the "pride" of supporting Sanders because his family originated from Poland.

If it's a question of law that one cannot be a Pole and a Jew at the same time then that could make some sorta a sense, in the same way that even 3rd generation Koreans born and raised in Japan isn't considered Japanese but are not alien resident either.

Being Polish is something I can identify with. How many black people voted for Obama because he is black? How many women would vote for Clinton because she's a woman?

I've decided to put my support behind Bernie Sanders because, like me, he is Polish.

I see where you're coming from OP. The posts here have really got me thinking what it means to be something; in your case Polish, and how different people can see it in different points of views.

Estate taxes are theft. Double dipping. Hell no!

Tax on speculation - which wreaks havoc on the markets...now THAT I'm all for.

Well that would explain why Bernie thinks it takes your doctor and whole lot of government bureaucrats to best determine how to fix your broken leg ...

Every candidate has good and bad.
The estate tax thing should be upped to $10 million.
Although with the delegate situation, Sanders will lose by winning anyway.

What would explain that? Would you care to expand on that thought?

Yes, a very poor attempt at one. Give me a break. It's very early and I am posting a bit while I wait for my kiddo to be ready to load up for the morning commute. The caffeine has not yet sunk in.

Polish is ethnicity, I thought it was a nation full of polish people. I bet some of them are even brown or black.

eth·nic·i·ty
