I hate religion with a passion but we are in a unique position in the UK and should really probably get behind Muslim women and give them all the support and empowerment possible.

Make the women into representatives of the faith and sideline the male influence.

I absolutely agree, and the first thing we all have to do is stop denying that there is a very real problem of misogyny and oppression of women in sections of the Muslim community in the UK.
All the usual bleeding hearts on ATS who deny this are just damaging the case that these Muslim women are arguing. Notice how none of them have contributed in this thread? They haven't a clue how to respond because it is an organised Muslim women's movement making the claims, so they stick their heads in the sand and ignore it because they are unable to shout "Islamophobe!!!" and it disrupts their lame self righteousness.

Wake the # up people! Muslim women are stating that misogyny is endemic and systemic in Muslim majority areas of local government in the UK, not white skinhead blokes, Muslim women.
So, instead of brushing it under the carpet lets shout it from the rooftops because it is something that has been anecdotal knowledge for #ing years but the do-gooders think that denying it is somehow helpful for these women.

It is not helpful to deny that there is a dark festering problem in many parts of the UK Muslim community, and solely caused by Muslim men. If you really want to help Muslim women then stop denying the problems they are facing.
It is not just the 'old boys network' where women are effectively barred from politics at a local level, the same Muslim women's group are campaigning against arranged marriages, female genital mutilation, and the exclusion of women from mosques etc.

Again though, the bleeding hearts will ignore this because it is Muslim women making the claims and they can't shout "Islamophobe!!!"
#ing political correct lot will shout down any non-Muslim making such claims, but ignore it when Muslim women speak out...just shows how full of # most of them are.
