From wiki:

The Pumapunku is a terraced earthen mound that is faced with blocks. It is 167.36 metres (549.1 feet) wide along its north-south axis and 116.7 metres (383 feet) long along its east-west axis.

As noted by Andean specialist, Binghamton University Anthropology professor W. H. Isbell,[2] a radiocarbon date was obtained by Vranich[3] from organic material from the lowermost and oldest layer of mound-fill forming the Pumapunku. This layer was deposited during the first of three construction epochs and dates the initial construction of the Pumapunku to 536–600 AD (1510 ±25 B.P. C14, calibrated date). Since the radiocarbon date came from the lowermost and oldest layer of mound-fill underlying the andesite and sandstone stonework, the stonework must have been constructed sometime after 536–600 AD.

Hard to get around that factoid.

Obviously fringers, in their ignorance, throw out C14 dates when they don't match what they want.

So, with that said, I wonder how this curiousity is explained.

It presents the impression that cross cultural, as well as Alien, intervention seems to have occurred? No?

Near by in Bolivia, this again, directs the attention towards that same end.

Of particular interest is that the people of the Fuente Magna, referred to the Goddess as Nia. Nia, is the Linear-A term for Neith. Neith is the Greek name for the Egyptian Goddess Nt or Neit, Semitic Anat. This goddess was very popular among the ancient people of Libya and other parts of Middle Africa, before these people left the region to settle Mesopotamia, the Indus Valley and Minoan Crete.

Dr. Winters noted that his translation of the Fuente Magna inscriptions supports the hypothesis of Awen Dawn that the Fuente was used in celebration of the Goddess religion of the ancient people of Bolivia. Awen Dawn recognized that the figure on the Fuente Magna was in a Goddess pose, with open arms and legs spread, which supports Winters’ translation.. In addition, the identification of symbols on the bowl by Awen that relate to European signs for the Mother Goddess, probably reflects the early influence of the Goddess Neith on the mainland of Greece and Crete.

It is believed that the Fuente Magna was probably crafted by Sumerian people who settled in Bolivia sometime after 2500 BC. The Sumerians used seaworthy ships that were known to sail to the distant Indian Subcontinent. Some Sumerian ships most likely made their way around South Africa and entered one of the currents in the area that lead from Africa across the Atlantic to South America and thence to the Pacific Ocean. They would have then searched for areas on the high plateau of Bolivia where food was being produced by the local inhabitants. They held the bowl in high esteem and were fastidious about its transport around the area (see Transportaciόn) It should be noted that there was one challenge to the authenticity of the Fuente Magna by skeptics who suggested that it was a fabrication by archeologists to gain international attention. The overwhelming support from the major portion of the academic community should discredit this criticism, as it has in times past when challenges arose to the existence of any writing at all in the Americas (e.g., that of the Olmec and Maya).

It is a interesting factor, that directs consideration to the point, if we are not seeing some interaction between Old and New Worlds by human visitations, whether intentional or accidental, or we get back to the direction of the Lore and Legends of the Ancient Cultures and Peoples themselves, and that directs us toward a Spiritually Infused Entity Based group generally associated as Aliens, whether Little Grey Men, gods, deities etc......

It was believed that human beings were actually Viracocha's second attempt at living creatures as he first created a race of giants from stone in the age of darkness. However, these giants proved unruly and it became necessary for Viracocha to punish them by sending a great flood. In the legend all these giants except two then returned to their original stone form and several could still be seen in much later times standing imposingly at sites such as Tiahuanaco (also known as Tiwanaku) and Pukará.

Then Viracocha created men and women but this time he used clay. He also gave them such gifts as clothes, language, agriculture and the arts and then created all animals. Even more useful was Viracocha's decision to create the sun, moon and stars and so bring light to the world. These heavenly bodies were created from islands in Lake Titicaca. Finished, and no doubt highly satisfied with his labours, Viracocha then set off to spread his civilizing knowledge around the world and for this he dressed as a beggar and assumed such names as Con Ticci Viracocha (also spelt Kon-Tiki), Atun-Viracocha and Contiti Viracocha Pachayachachic. He was assissted on his travels by two sons or brothers called Imaymana Viracocha and Tocapo Viracocha. The god was not always well received despite the knowledge he imparted, sometimes even suffering stones thrown at him. Ending up at Manta (in Ecuador), Viracocha then walked across the waters of the Pacific (in some versions he sails a raft) heading into the west but promising to return one day to the Inca and the site of his greatest works.

sacredsites.com...

Viracocha then traveled from Tiahuanaco (also written as Tiwanaku), bringing civilization and peace wherever he went. Known by other names including Kon Tiki and Tunupa, he was said to have been a bearded, blue-eyed, white man of large stature. A teacher and a healer, a miracle worker and an astronomer, Viracocha is also credited with introducing agriculture, writing, and metallurgy.

And then this brings into the conversation, the other associated curiosity Slayer discussed in his work www.abovetopsecret.com... discussing these.

Why would South American groups, which some suggest date only to the area of 400 BC wish to elongate the Skulls of their offspring in the manner of the Egyptians, and as strange as that is, where did the cranium seam, that runs down the center of a Humans Skull, go.

Some thing is not right, but at least we know here. These are in NO WAY hoaxes played out by the MORMOMS.

I did not throw out your implied C14 dating methods. i just noted many have been there since the rise of Tiahuanaco, and observing as you surely will confirm, it was in pieces long before the Spaniards located this site.

Actually, it appears, unlike some of the structures dating to this period, that this site specific was utterly destroyed.

I didn't mean you. I meant sources you might come across on the internet.

Graham Hancock (in)famously said "You can't Carbon date stone..." - speaking specifically about C14 dating at Tiahuanaco.

He was either unaware that samples were taken from under the level of stone, or he was (as I suspect) just grasping at straws in the face of the evidence provided to him in the interview (BBC Horizons.)

I might be confusing this thread with another one, but I stated (somewhere) that the overall Tiahuanaco site had certainly been occupied for quite a long period before the structures there were erected.
The C14 data confirm this.

Places, once occupied, grow in occupation if they are a desirable place to occupy, and that area was agriculturally desirable, though I can't say off the top of my head when the agriculture there took off.

Actually, to the experienced eye, the answer is "no" or at least "doubtful." Look at the wall again, and remember that it was not found intact. It's been reconstructed. Some of those pieces are a different color than the others - so the question arises: is this actually an original piece from the wall, or (as in the case of other monuments) have they carved replacement pieces? I can't tell, but the amount of wear on each of the faces is markedly different for some of them which suggests that the wall wasn't intact.

I don't get the connection here. This is a stylized bird in a bowl that appears to be limestone. It's very consistent with the tools and capabilities of these people and birds are found everywhere.

The good doctor is a physicist and not an archaeologist or linguist and the remarks are as ... incorrect and uninformed... as my remarks would be on high energy physics.

He needs to either stick with physics or to get a good background in archaeology and art (after which he's going to take this paper down very quickly and pretend it doesn't exist.

It's fascinating that these are posited to be true while stories of Paul Bunyan or Clifford the Big Red Dog are never offered as proof of giants - or that the people citing these legends never suspect that the ancients might make up stories about giants just as moderns do.

They didn't. These are the product of head binding. The Egyptians are simply a variant of natural human skull shapes (and we find the same shapes walking around the streets today.

Perhaps it's because you're not familiar with the anatomy of human skulls?

When I was a teaching assistant, I taught the human anatomy labs for a forensic anthropology professor. I assure you, they've got all the right bones in the right position. They're deformed, yes, but they're all there. You can doublecheck for yourself using the above image and googling for other skull anatomy diagrams and then looking very closely at those skulls.

Some of the sutures are hard to see on the older ones, because skull sutures fuse to the point of disappearance as people age. That's one way of determining age. You can doublecheck this on any forensic site.
