The US military reportedly dropped a 500 pound bomb on the wrong house Saturday. The official report is 5 dead, but the owner of the home said 14 were killed: 7 children, 4 women and 3 men. The bomb was intended for another building housing insurgents nearby.

BAGHDAD, Iraq - The United States military said it dropped a 500-pound bomb on the wrong house outside the northern city of Mosul on Saturday, killing five people. The man who owned the house said the bomb killed 14 people, and an Associated Press photographer said seven of them were children.

The strike in the town of Aitha, 30 miles south of Mosul, came hours before a senior U.S. Embassy official in Iraq met with leaders of the Sunni Arab community to apply political pressure against their threat to boycott Jan. 30 elections. The Arab satellite broadcaster al-Jazeera said the Sunnis asked the Americans to announce a timetable for a U.S. troop withdrawal.

Violence also continued, with at least eight Iraqis killed.

American officials repeatedly have insisted the vote go ahead, but it is an extremely delicate time, with Iraq's government perceived by many as closely tied to the U.S.-led coalition.

Another missed target by the US and they are only claiming to have killed 5 people. Again we see the owner of that house says there were 14 people inside. Who do we believe? Of course we believe our reporters, our government and military.

It was a tragic accident, people were told to leave the area before the coalition began the attack, something which was not done to those civilians who died in 9/11 and 3/11, among other attacks done by Islamic extremists. I also see that you leave off the fact that insurgents are killing Iraqis too with their roadbombs, car bombs etc.

Many times those attacks done by the insurgents have killed and are killing more Iraqi civilians than military personnel. BTW, would you like to also admit that France and the UN are evil for what they are doing in the Ivory Coast? (just one case) What is happening in the Ivory Coast is actually worse, since these people have no weapons to defend themselves, yet the French and the UN are shooting at them.... This is not even reported on the news anymore....

I heard the incident in the news, very tragic and this incidents are becoming to often to dismiss, something is not going right with the way US is finding and tagging possible targets.

The consequences of all this? well all we have to do is see how many of our troops had been dying lately, just 10 soldiers this week 7 marines and 2 other soldiers from another branch.

Yesterday 10 more soldiers targets from Ukraine.

They are getting their revenge OK from our troops and coalition.

I wish all this madness end and we get the troops out of that mess we call Iraq.

Uhh, no, that's not why people don't reply to these threads. It's just that when there are more than thread discussing the same thing, one of them is likely to get more attention:

70.85.38.54...

has about 50 replies so far. Same incident.

I didn't see anything in that article that article that suggests they were told to leave that area before the bombing.

This was clearly an accident, and the U.S. government is not evil but acting in a way that it thinks is in the best interests of its citizens. You may disagree with its decisions, but its motives are good not evil.

Even if they were told to leave, where the hell would they go? Eeveryone, at least I hope, are aware of the mess in Falujah. Once people left they realised there was no support, no food and no shelter. There was no where for them to go so they had no choice but to return to the city.
