Well, we don;t have the MOST unhealthy population, but even if we did, all the more reason for universal healthcare.

If I have better health care at the cost of my personal prosperity, what is the point of being healthy? Life sure is great living in that van down by the river! ... or in that cobbled together shanty under the overpass. I'd love to spend 80 healthy years never quite knowing what it is to have enough to eat or enjoying what I eat because it's slop, not having adequate warmth in winter or cool air in summer just so I can enjoy good health.

Yes, long life spent in miserable poor conditions just isn't what I want my paycheck confiscated for.

That's pretty morbid, you assume better healthcare leads unhealthy people to live longer in misery? That is an illogical assumption.


Of course, you think they want Healthy people? OH come on, they need sick people so they can make billions on prescription drugs every year.
Healthy people certainly do not support the BigPharma, so they want old-ish people who are sick, buying the drugs, swallowing them chemicals, ...people who are just healthy enough to do their job and paperwork and just dumb enough so they won't figure out how screwed they really are.

The question was posed. Long, miserable life or shorter, happier one. I explained which I'd rather have.

I believe this same thing is asked regularly by vegans who claim their diet will give you years of extra life. Again, same thing. The vegan diet would take a lot of joy out of my life, so even if it does prolong it, why would I want a joyless existence that drags on for longer?

The costs of socialized care and the rationing and loss of autonomy that comes with it are higher costs than I want to pay.

A lot of chemicals, food additives, hormones, GMO's, sugar replacements, etc... We all cram down our throats.. It's not just a choice difference. Europeans aren't JUST smarter... Their governments actually ban such products. Ours doesn't because.. it would not benefit the billionaires to do so.

Goverment + billionaires = Bad for the average person.

I can't argue the intentions of Big Pharma, those are morbid. but Big Pharma is not the end all and be all of everything. Lawmakers already have heard pretty loudly that the people do not like them falling for Big Pharma lobbyists. Won't see a change overnight, but they see the pushback. Those ofer 65 are a MASSIVE voting block and they complain very loudly about Big Pharma, AARP is a massive lobby for those over 50.

That voting block just gets bigger and bigger. Big Pharma has an army to fight now.

You want to know why government and the very large are in bed? Government passes laws and writes regs that the very large use to squash their smaller competitors. Corps pay lobbyists to leverage that political power against each other.

So, when it seems clear to me that a large part of the problem is the POWER of the government ... you think giving it more power will solve the issue?
