We've just put a deposit on a new German Shepherd puppy! I don't know exactly when it will be arriving (or if it's even born yet), but my husband and I are so excited to bring another little one into our home.

I'll update this thread when we know more. But for now, I'll just link to the breeder so anyone who's interested can read about their breeding program. These dogs are truly exceptional and we're so happy!

Congrats. We all know it is going to a great home. Make sure we get some photos when the puppy arrives.

We have a list of names. We're going to see what fits. I don't think we'll be naming it "Doo Doo" however. Sorry, Masonicus....

Do you use "people" names? Or formal show-dog names? Or German names?

We have a cat called "Steve."
My son's friend has a dog named "Francis."

I knew another one named "Mike."
Our current canine son is "Walter"....

I hope your puppy is vital and does not suffer from HD. I´ve looked up the bloodlines they all are 1A, that´s good!
Don´t you want to visit and choose a puppy that fits you? Just asking.

The puppy will have a registered kennel name, but we'll probably give it a different "call name". Our dogs have been named Cara and Mia, Jaia and B'asia. So we have used a mix of people names and made-up names. I'm not too crazy about any German names. I also like word names, like Easy, Yoga and Lyric. Or musical names like Lennon, Joplin or Jett.

Yeah, there's very little chance of hip dysplasia or degenerative myelopathy, as their breeding dogs are clear of these medical issues. This is WHY we purchase from a breeder. We just put down a dog (adopted from the pound) who suffered from hip and later elbow dysplasia all her life. It was VERY hard for her in the end.

I also LOVE their neonatal and early scent program.

Because then you end up with all of them!

On names. Neither Deuteronomy nor Urinater will work for us... Although, when Jaia was a baby, I called him "little # machine" many times.

I would love to visit, but they're on the other side of the country and it's not really feasible. The breeder knows exactly what we're looking for and all the pups are temperament tested. She has an excellent reputation for turning out service dogs, police dogs, protection dogs, as well as herders and show dogs. I have every confidence that she'll do a better job picking out a puppy for us than even we could.

Exactly! I couldn't guarantee that we'd only come home with one!

Ok then I hope it fits

And I also hope, since it´s a working dog, you make him work ;-) Whatever, keep him bussy. Ours like to race beneath the car. They need that but I honestly have no doubt with you, I feel it will be in very good hands.

Last post before I leave ATS, wish you the best!

This is why we go with cats. Cats have less instance of breeding issues in the standard stock. Little buggers will breed anything that moves ... always plenty of hardy cats and kittens.
