Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders will receive protection from Secret Service, according to Fox News’ Ed Henry.

Sanders joins Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton and Republican candidates Donald Trump and Ben Carson as the only White House contenders with details from the agency.

It is not clear what prompted the move or what Sanders’ code name will be.

Carson and Trump each requested protection last year amid their turbulent presidential campaigns, and Clinton retained her detail from her time as first lady.

Trump's code name is "mogul," a nod to his status as a billionaire businessman, while Carson's is "Eli," a reference to the Biblical prophet. Clinton goes by "Evergreen."

This is interesting news, especially since we don't know why Sanders is going receive protection. We've seen Trump get his protection because of his loud mouth but Bernie isn't threatening anyone, well, besides Wall Street. I guess we gotta wait and see what new details develop.

I believe the answer to why is quite simple, Hilldog's history!

Well to be fair I am sure it extends to her controllers and the very real threat that Bernie represents to their corrupt empire. This man has many enemies.

Bernies support literally reach's out to every family that is not a part of the 1%. We are seeing the political revolution he is calling for and TPTB have not had to face a series threat like this since Kennedy!

Good move Bernie, hopefully they will be people he can trust and not pull what the secret service did to JFK.

Either Sanders has been threatened or his bid for the White House has become very real, so much so he now requires protection. I bet it's the latter.

I'd hazard a guess it's because he is running against a Clinton.

and in this regard "keep your friends close and your enemies closer" is rather apt.

This much is a certainty.

Old Hilldog does not stand a chance to him as long as he can continue living!

Not wanting to play the race card or accuse the US of intolerance, but I'd suggest a Jewish Socialist is a prime target for attack in some circles of The States.

Running a campaign against Hillary Clinton is enough.

Sanders to receive Secret Service protection

Well that was mighty thoughtful.

"Look father, I'm a real boy!"

There's no mystery here. He is a front runner for the nomination. Of course he should get protection. There are too many nutters out there to leave him hanging. It has nothing to do with him being a Jewish socialist. It has to do with him being a visible and now-important candidate.

I think you're right, that it's because he's become a serious contender.

Bernie has a lot of supporters with household incomes in the $400,000/range too (aka Top 1%.) It's unfortunate that people tend to lump doctors and small business owners together with chemical and oil company CEOs, Rothschilds, etc.

Thank you for making a correction for me!

My intention was not to lump in doctors nor small business owners, it was the latter crew that you emphasized that I am concerned with putting a hit on Bernie. The nefarious banksters and their various monopolies!

Not the 1% the .01%

If Hillary goes to jail....
Will she have Secret Service protection then?

She will still be a former First Lady.

People of her status are above the law. Maybe one of her lackeys will go to jail but that's about it.

It is pretty standard for presidential candidates to receive protection. Not sure if that is just nominees or not. I know the nominees also receive National Security briefings. I agree with posts above that there are serious contentions about the direction of this country and people are in serious opposition at this point. An assassination on a socialist communist trying to take over could come from just about anywhere. Think of all the vets in this country that fought in wars and all the lost lives fighting against socialism and communism. I understand we have some social programs, but that is a far cry from where people like Sanders want to go. Socialism has failed everywhere it has been tried in every point in history.

There is a reason the US was so successful and powerful and it wasn't a socialist government. Like the Russian political scientist said a few years ago, I see the US breaking up a la Yugoslavia. The differences between people and ideas are so far apart at this point I don't see them being bridged. If I was running a socialist campaign, I would want protection too. After all, it is the right that is most likely to produce a sniper imho.

Yeah, I know.
I was just throwing out a big 'what if'.
I complain about my kids doing that.

Thanks for acknowledging. Honestly, I think whoever initially put that "1%" number out there popularized it on purpose to make the ideological battle seem more insurmountable than 300+ million vs a couple hundred!
Cheers

They protect anyone who does well in the polls.

That said, short of some major political disaster Sanders is going to win. He's the only one with a message people like, that doesn't involve burning the country to the ground just to see what happens. He's effectively running unopposed. Behind closed doors, even bankers and the elite support Bernie. Especially the banks.
