The aircraft in the picture have leading edge extensions. The F-16 doesn't.

I wasn't certain by looking at the pic.

The WARP pods you're talking about are removable and can be swapped around to different aircraft.

No, it's a tanker. The fighters are moving from one base to another. They traveled over water at some point so had to have a tanker with them.

Seeing how it's NorCal, a better bet would be a KC-10 and 144th FW F-15's...

Definitely not Eagles. The wing is all wrong. That's an -18.

I've seen that formation west of Travis. In my case, they were clearly a formation of F-15's.
Your photo definitely looks like F-18s, however..

Yeah, I was going off the smallish pic, but once I blew up the pic, they're definitely Supers, probably from Lemoore. The 144th has been doing a lot of AAR practice out over the water west of the bay since their conversion from Vipers to Eagles which was why I initially figured that they were -15's.

It's great how a crap phone camera can turn a simple fly over into a great game!

Yeah the leading edge is why I waffled. Their course if they are F-18 would but them heading towards Lemoore NAS in the Central Valley or Australians heading towards Red Flag 16-1? They are sending Both the bug and superbug to the shindig

What date was it taken?

Going on the date of the OP it was the RAAF with their F models going to 16-1. They departed Australia about the 21st or so. There's a sixth aircraft out of frame.
