An active shooter has been reported at a building at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego.

The medical center posted on its Facebook page shortly after 8 a.m. local time that an active shooter had been reported in a building at the facility.

“All occupants are advised to run, hide or fight,” the message stated.

Why are they advised to fight ? That made me read it twice to make sure what I was reading was what I was actually reading.

I guess when it's a military building, advising to fight is ok ?

That's a good question. Also, wouldn't this be a legal matter I.E have the police involved to stop any crime taking place.

Not sure, but I would imagine that there are some there with the knowledge necessary to do so.

Judging by the fact that the local police were told that "they were not needed at this time" I am assuming this is a military officer or patient? Are there wards there for the mentally ill?

Edit: Confirmed the base has a mentally ill treatment section to it, from a child care worker on the stream linked above.

"... Run, Hide or Fight" is now the standard procedure for active shooter situations. We have a Gun Free work place and our safety person also advise us to do the same in that situation.

The advisory was something, eh? Run, hide, or fight.

The preference should be to fight. If even those whose only weapon is a pen to drive into an eye socket, or through the entrance to the ear, they have a better chance if they make war on the creep than if they run.

Did your safety person also instruct you on how to fight an armed person with no weapon? That's seems ridiculous.

Hopefully this situation ends quickly and as well as possible, with no loss of life. Thanks for posting.

My team trained for that as well as weapon retention; anything is possible in these situations.
