So this morning I woke up to having a conversation with my wife who had a conversation with her mother earlier as we all live in the same house only to be told that I a person on 30 years of age am " not aloud to watch scary movies or scary youtube (Paranormal, Ghost and alien stories anymore " as it increases and attracts paranormal activity. I was like in my head WTF. Seriously how on earth does watching a scary movie or listening to a scary story attract paranormal activity ? I will say thoe what I know for a fact does attract activity is when people are emotionally and mentally unstable. This has to do with a change of your spiritual energies and becoming more vulnerable, which the mother in law has both of as she is emotionally unstable and a mental case at times. Keep in mind she is also a catholic and believes there is NO SUCH thing as aliens and humans and earth are the center of the universe.

Now I am someone who in the past has had many encounters in the past with shadow people, ghost, inter dimensional beings and what have you, and I know from experience at the time of all my encounters I was either emotionally unstable or mentally sick dealing with depressions.

What is everyone else intake on this and attracting paranormal activity ?

1) Yes, I think it's stupid to make this claim. I don't think TV or internet is a gateway for paranormal hauntings

2) Yes, I also think it is possible to attract negative entities into your life. But as you said, this is usually the result of very severe anger and depression mixed with drugs and alcohol (as if these emotions and substances weren't harmful enough on their own.) There are sinister things out there that like to prey upon us when we leave ourselves vulnerable.

My advice for living with 2 women out to micromanage your life? Do all your fun stuff in secret and hope you never get caught! All hell will certainly bust loose at this point. And don't forget to keep the toilet seat clean.

I doubt youtube will result in haunting / paranormal activity.. I don't think youtube / internet connection is needed for the paranormal to enter a house.

With that said offer a compromise.. You will stop watching those videos and in exchange you will use either just the Ouija board or stick to, at dinner time, sacrificing a small child to the great god Imhoteb instead of all 3 at the same time.

If she protests tell her that while you were performing a ritualistic slaughter of squirrels / armored squirrels (armadillos) all is ok, the house won't be haunted and that the entrails never lie.

As a side note always always always remember to pay your exorcist or your house might be repossessed.

With that said the voices in my head are fighting, one of my personalities ran off and my imaginary friend is running with scissors and now the Ouija board is telling me to gear up for that 7 state shooting spree..

gotta go...

Question / clarification -

When you say negative entities are you referring to the paranormal or the wife / mother?

My step mother is very afraid of when anyone even talks about ghosts, and she gets really upset and fearful.
Pray for your mother in law as it seems she needs some spiritual support. Don't let her musings on the subject turn you against her, because that is what those negative forces want (If there are any around).

If there is any oppression happening in your family, then don't let it gain a foothold by turning against your Mother in-law. That is my honest heart felt advice. Be kind to her, and talk to her about good things, and show her you support her. That would go a long ways to showing you really are a blessing to your family, and the man in charge of your destiny, and a guide for your family's as well.

Now, you know you are going to have to pull up the "Evil Dead" movies and turn up the volume really loud when the incantations are being played on the reel to reel player

If they are freaking out about stuff like that then that should drive them over the cliff.

That is if you are trying to annoy them.

I think both sets of views are as valid as each other until one is proven as fact.

Until then, I wouldn't be able to say a new level of stupidity had been reached.

What do I think?
You have serious problems if your mother in law can dictate what you see, hear, or do.

Stop telling the mother what you are doing or watching to placate her. Hopefully your wife isn't brainwashed.
You can make up stories to placate them too. Tell them you know all those aliens are really just demons in disguise. They might eat that up. I never tell my mother or sisters everything I watch or read. I'm not sure why you or your wife are if it's antagonizing the mother. People get set in their ways. Arguing with relatives just creates bitter feelings. If your wife agrees just don't talk about those subjects to the mother. My relatives learned not to discuss politics if they know they will never agree. I learned it's best not to argue with relatives if you don't have to because they may want to argue about it forever and ever. With just about anyone else you get mad at, you can walk away and forget about them. If you do that to your wife's mother, your wife might think you are being rude to your wife and might think about leaving you. I could be wrong though.

Tell the women that they are being superstitious and using magical thinking.

Explain that thinking "like attracts like" has no basis in fact.

Point out that in science, more often, opposites attract.

Tell them gullibility, magical thinking, fear and ritualistic little actions to "dispel the bad" are more likely to attract negative spiritual forces because the person involved is obviously an easy target.

Point out to your wife that paranormal attraction is a manifestation of belief. Since it is her and her mother, not you, that believes these videos will attract paranormal activity, it will be them, not you, causing the attraction.

Maybe, just because people believe weird things doesn't mean they are crazy. I mean you said yourself you had experiences with shadow people, or inter stellar beings and you were "depressed" at the time when you had these "encounters". Which lends itself to you still believing that you had these encounters and they weren't just manifestations of your mind.

Maybe the solution is for you and your wife to move out and find your own place. That way you can watch all the paranormal stuff you want. That way you can continue your research into the paranormal and if something is able to manifest itself through your computer screen hopefully a net will be around to catch it.

Oooooo, now that was cruel and worth a thousand stars. LOL

@OP
The problem is, is that the jinn (daemons) love playing on peoples minds with suggestions.
So after the person watches a horror film, the jinn have a good laugh and make the person suffer a nightmare where the film plays out in the persons dream world.

The archons (sick evil 4th dimension scum) love it as well. They feed off the fear which is why TV News puts priority on doom and gloom current affairs. They loved the film 2012 where only the uber rich will survive and every peasant dies. Mega doom porn in that film.

Or you could simply try to respect their beliefs, no matter what level of stupidity you think they have achieved, and maybe try to watch whatever Gore-du-jour you're into when they aren't around. Regardless of whether or not television potentiates paranormal activity, belief sure does.

my opinion :

its a standard scare mongering trope :

of you do < insert activity " they " dont approve of > then < insert horrible consequence > will happen

a classic example is the victorian claim :

if you mastrubate , you will go blind

there thats historical example for you - utter twaddle - but a perfect demonstration

First, I was going to do a post about this topic to see if anyone else had experiences but then decided not to.
Second, I am mentally and emotionally stable.
And now, I have some small abilities. I suppress it because I don't want to fully deal with what would happen if I would accept it and I don't know how to properly deal with the consequences. So, there's a show that I like to watch. It's "supposed" to be real and I've noticed that after I would watch an episode or two in a day my abilities or noticing paranormal things would happen later. A lot of the time I don't think it was positive. I think it was happening because While watching the show I was opening myself up to the paranormal and I couldnt shut it off till I woke the next day. I didn't want this to happen but it kept on happening so I had to take a break from that show. Scary movies is different, I don't like to watch them but if I do these experiences don't happen.

Fear is the Exact thing that encourages/allows negative entities leeway into your life-more than ghosts/spirits/entities/demons poltergeist activity etc,the Fear of them should be feared, imo. Well not just imo,it is something i have experienced since childhood.and my earliest childhood instinct has been to IGNORE any manifestations, well except ufo's,that's another kettle of fish for another appropriate thread.

I've had cutlery jump out of the drying rack to the floor in front of my eyes,so i just went and picked it up(washed it+put it back in the drying rack) I heard a thud behind my back as i stood waiting for my teawater to boil(with also the almost palpable sense of something standing right behind me at the same time) Ignored the presence, then when i heard the thud, found that 2 grocery items had jumped from the center of the table to the kitchen floor, went and picked them up as if it was a normal happening. In early childhood and up to present day i have strongly sensed entities behind me,or watching me-ignore,ignore,ignore. With the way this world is going and the cost of living, plus many normal everyday problems these are the least of my worries. Just ignore. NEVER show fear.

ETA: For a certain period in my adult life i allowed myself to be fearful, and the entities had a merry old time, the more i feared, the more they upped their game. So i really can say,if i had refused to feel intimidated,i would've suffered a lot less of terror and anxiety. In my case being an abductee played a part but that is no excuse-i am the gatekeeper of my feelings, and *I* should've with all the experience of paranormal happenings since early childhood, been more firm and strict about keeping that gate barricaded against fear. I did suffer an escalation in my chronic major depressive disorder during those years too,so that also tipped the scales in the favor of the predatory/negative entities, because i was not strong and motivated enough to take the strong stance i normally do against fear seeping in.

Except for the movie 28 Days Later,i find horror movies great fun. It's a Movie. Not a documentary. The reason 28 Days Later creeped me out so much was because who knows what godawful concoctions scientists under contract to defence departments are, well, concocting. To me something approaching the rage virus seems plausible and not the least bit supernatural.
