Man who says he feared mass shootings accidentally shoots stranger in movie theater, police say

A man accused of shooting a stranger at a Renton movie theater told officers he was carrying an unholstered gun because he worried about mass shootings, police said.

Police investigate a shooting at the Regal Cinemas Stadium 14 at The Landing in Renton on Thursday. Witnesses say a man walked into the theater during a showing of the film “13 Hours” and seemed to accidentally shoot a woman as he fumbled around with a gun. (Bettina Hansen / The Seattle Times)

He "feared a mass shooting," so he took his gun into the theater... and shot some random stranger. Ah but he is the son of an Air Force colonel and an upstanding member of the community according to his lawyers.

Only in 'Murica.

But if the woman had a gun, she could have shot him first!

In fact, if they all had guns, then they could have all shot first then nobody would have died. That's how it works. Right?

Guy gave 3 different stories so far on the shooting. Dropped and went off, someone grabbed his crotch or someone was irritating him. Let let him get the story straight. reply to: Blackmarketeer

Well, clearly that was what this guy was thinking - better get the drop on this random stranger before she shoots me. So we should be congratulating him on his quick wits on taking out a threat.

.....and then he ran home....his father, called the police.

Seems he didn't have the backbone to stay and offer help to his victim!

Obvious propaganda is obvious.

Now if only we could tie this into syria, hilary, nsa spying and maybe throw a little race bait on the top we could have the mainstream outlets do a few primetime spots about it.

Yeah, totally obvious. Only a 2nd amendment advocate would be so genius to shoot somebody in a theater and cause anti-2nd amendment propaganda. He knew those dirty liberals would actually report it in the news (I mean, it's just a theater shooting, those pansies) and try to spin into a "bad" thing thus proving they are just using it for propaganda.

Well played, scared little theater shooter, well played.

Don't you mean the more idiots that breed the less safer we all are?

If guns were really that dangerous we'd all be dead. Guns do outnumber people in America 3 to 1 after all.

Witnesses said he appeared to be intoxicated plus he was also on anxiety meds.

According to another witness, he stumbled into a nearby restaurant and dropped his gun on the floor.

After drinking just one beer? I don't think so...

Throw in the fact that he left the scene of a crime and has a prior DUI and I would say things are not looking too good for this guy.

The suspected shooter, 29-year-old Dane Gallion of Newcastle, faced a judge over the weekend. Court documents allege Gallion admitted to drinking a beer and taking anxiety medication before going to the movies Thursday night.

But, Gallion has a prior arrest for DUI – and witnesses in Renton said he appeared to be intoxicated. That, and because he allegedly left the crime scene, the judge granted Gallion $25,000 bail.

Clearly the laws in place need to be enforced better.

Obama wants to go after mental problems.

THIS is the argument against the "good guy with a gun" rhetoric.

More like scared spitless coward with a gun. I'm certain, though, that the victim feels eternally grateful to the patriot, hero who saved her from some bad guy.

Idiots breed everywhere, not everywhere has the firearm homicide rates the US has...

If guns were really that dangerous we'd all be dead. Guns do outnumber people in America 3 to 1 after all.

Dangerous enough for weekly shootings and dangerous enough to accidentally shoot someone when you're attempting to protect yourself from shootings...

This is very unfortunate.

Based on the posts above, it would seem as though the owner of the firearm will and should be held accountable on some level.

That having been said, this does not justify trying to strip people of their 2A rights.

It's an idiot who had a negligent discharge. He was carrying his weapon in a dangerous fashion.

We need a stronger gun control culture. People need to learn how to safely carry a firearm and use it in a proper manner!

this guy is a special kind of stupid, im guessing he is the typical redneck type...

Dane Gallion later told the arresting officer that another moviegoer reached for his crotch and that’s when he accidentally fired the gun, according to the probable-cause statement. Gallion said he fled the theater immediately because he didn’t want to be taken for a mass shooter.

this moron is married and trying to get his MASTERS DEGREE.... good luck with that now lol.

The more guns, the less chance of someone being shot. At least according to American gun nut logic.

You keep telling yourselves that the more guns you have, the less chance you'll be killed by someone with a gun.

Fools.

EDIT: Now to spin it towards an anti-gun agenda and blame the liberals.
