I don't think it's so much that the girls wore the shirts and took a picture but the opportunity for the lynch mob to go in extreme mode is what is really going on. They get the publicity, the feeling of having power over others and the chance to stand up and look holier than thou. Fact of the matter is they have so little positive going for themselves all they can do is find fault with others.

Come to think of it I knew lots of people in the church that were exactly like that.

How many rap songs are out there laced with that word? Is the PC brigade going to go after the music industry?
Suspension is enough.

so these girls wore those letters in that order for what purpose exactly? they did it thinking they were being funny?

the saddest part is that these girls are smart, college bound, young adults, they should have known better.

It doesn't matter why they did it. We'll never know unless they tell us. Even at that, why is it such a big deal? Hell, they probably just did it for the rush of excitement you get for feeling like you've gotten away with breaking a major rule. At least, that's how people make you feel these days about that one word.

One thing is for sure, there's plenty of salt to be passed around after seeing all the tears over this. I should have worn my water boots today. Last I checked, it's JUST a word. You'd think they got busted smoking behind the tree or smuggling drugs into the school the way some people are acting.

It's like bullies. They have to find someone else to pick on to make themselves feel more secure. I'll be glad to see this PC BS die out. One of the best things that'll come out of our outdated power grid failing is that we won't have the internet any longer.

If we are to ban/punish anything that offends, then we'll have to get rid of pictures of; bacon (Vegans), Kittens (PETA), all music videos, porn (prudes).

Which would effectively kill the internet.

As a matter of fact, there is nothing out in the world that won't offend someone.

So lets just sit in our homes and never post, never say anything, never do anything, never write anything, never sing anything.

But then we'll offend all the agoraphobes if we never leave our homes.

Y'know, if the n-word wasn't so damn taboo, people wouldn't feel this need to want to say it to be bratty. I've known plenty of people who aren't racist use their scrabble letters to spell the word when they were young brats, because they thought it was funny. No different than every single artist I've known that would draw pictures of poop whenever they got new art supplies or a wacom tablet. Or what about all the people who aren't gay, but think it's funny to draw penises?? Yes, it's all bad in bad taste, but in the end, it's humor.

How about this one, since people were talkin' about crackers. I'm a minority. To be more specific, I'm mixed race. Half hispanic, half white. I'm a wheat thin cracker. XD

It is just a word, that's it. What happened to the old saying of sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me?
granted yes words can hurt, but its not a physical thing. Now if these girls beat up on a black kid, because of the color of their skin, then yes! twist those panties! But it is just a word.

you're right, it doesn't matter why they did it, what matters is there is absolutely no good reason for it and they should have known better. it makes me sick how they are laughing in that pic as they must think it is so funny to line up in that order and then post it for laughs. I could understand if it were a bunch of uneducated kids making a stupid decision but these are educated, college bound kids, they should have known better.

That's what I keep trying to tell my young cousin, because his dad is black, but his mom is my cousin, so mixed hispanic/white. He's in jr. high, and all the girls love him. But, the boys seem to hate him, and tend to call him the n-word on a regular basis. He's gotten into a few fights because of it. I keep trying to tell him that word has no power if you don't give it any.

I grew up in a racist small town, and I've been called it all. Hell, I've even had hispanic kids be racist towards me, telling me I'm no "real mexican" because I didn't listen to gangsta-crap and dress stupidly. I remember once this short lil'# of a kid tried picking a fight with me in art class. I had my head held up by my left hand while staring at this kid trying to insult me. After a few minutes of no reaction, he got close to my face and called me a "spic". The moment that happened, I started laughing my ass off at him. I remember telling him "Really!? You have to sink that low, eh??" He looked sad, then slinked off across the room.

I gave up trying to tell him to stop giving that word power, because he always lets it get to him. It's no different than trying to tell people to stop feeding the trolls. No matter how often you tell them, they just don't listen. Here's to hoping he learns to let it roll off of his back, because if they have to resort to racial slurs to try and hurt you, it shows they've really got nothing.

you keep saying it's just a word, I dare you to walk into any black neighborhood with friends wearing those shirts in order giggling like a village idiot and see what happens, after all it's just a word.

we do have freedom of speech in this country and now in this internet age you say something stupid and you will pay a price.

Hey, no worries!!
That's why I do it, because I like to make people laugh, and I definitely don't mind poking fun at myself. lol Besides, every time I read your name, I laugh because it reminds me of this.

Regardless of their education, they are still kids. Teens to be exact. An education does not equal common sense. It was picture done in bad taste, But they are not the first and they will not be the last to do something like this. They are laughing because at the time they were having fun. No one is getting hurt.

From what I've read, not many are arguing that you will pay a price. Where the division seems to be is what price should be paid. Many, like myself, feels that 5 days suspension is severe enough for some kids who did a tasteless joke. Others want their lives ruined all because the joke was insensitive.

As much as I hear people hate on sharia law, it seems america has it's own version of it. Do something nobody agrees with, ruin their lives and make sure they pay for it forever. Anyone with that mindset is a terrible person, and I want to make sure I never know them.

That's what I was trying to say as well. Play Call of Duty for 15 minutes and you'll hear some kid scream that word several times because it's like a cuss word these days thanks to all the people whining about how severe the word is.

That's right, if they were violent towards someone simply for being black, and there was no provoking involved, I'd be fine with an expulsion. But for a word? Psh, pathetic.

Oh please. It's no worse than farting in class. And that might actually have an effect on someone. If you don't want young kids to get a thrill out of saying such a horrible nasty abhorrent cruel shameful terrifying ghastly dreadful shocking mean spirited word, don't make such a damn big deal out of it. You don't have to be uneducated to say it. You only have to be uneducated to think it's racist or worthy of expulsion for ALMOST saying it.

It's just a #ing word for craps sake.
