Yeah, there's not going to be much of substance.
It's 2:15 am Alaska time, and we got nearly literally rolled out of bed by a 7.1 earthquake. Everyone else went back to sleep and I'm laying here twitchy waiting for aftershocks.

I seem to have a few neighbors awake now too from the same incident. I'm just looking to chat a bit until I can get back to sleep.

Whoa !

Hope that was the big one and all are OK !!

Gather your thoughts now and ask yourself - what do I need to gather up and place safely and

where should we be if this is a pre - quake and there is worse on the way .

Don't mean to alarm or scare you, just being logical ...

Hope you stay safe and that was it ... !

Thoughts are with you ...

We rolled around for about a minute. Drawers came open and stuff came off shelves all over the house. We had glass come off of several places, we were lucky not much broke. So far I found a piece of broken driftwood and a handle gone off of a cup is all. I'm amazed.

Living in Alaska, this happens regularly. This is just the biggest I've felt, the longest too. Things don't normally come off of shelves either since things are built heavily for the weather.

Thanks for stopping in! I won't be sleeping for a little bit.

We did that during the quake actually. It's the only thing to do.

Now, logically, I shouldn't have bar glass and stacks of canning jars up high in an earthquake prone area either. I got lucky I didn't lose anything special. We did kind of catch a few things on our way by them though too. I've been rearranging lately anyway, things may find safer homes after tonight!

Thank you for stopping in. I miss the coffee thread!

Not my first, but probably the biggest. We are pretty close to the epicenter too, which helps. Drawers came open and shelves dumped themselves. I'm lucky my canning jars and bar glass didn't shatter. I'm worried a bit about the crawlspace though. It's where the rest of my jars are stacked......

Usually we watch to see how long the hanging plants swing for, and once I watched my husband's pickup truck dance in the driveway a bit. It was strong enough to compress the rubber in the tires, terrible description, sorry it's late. We live across the inlet from a few volcanoes and feel a lot of movement.

They usually don't bother me, but I've been supercharged almost.

Yeah it shook us right out of bed.
It was a good test for the middle of the night I guess.
It's going to take awhile to go back to sleep for sure.

Thanks for helping me pass some time everyone! It went by better than it would have alone with my own thoughts in the dark. I'm going to attempt sleep now I think. There's cleanup to do in the morning before football!

126 houses lost in 90 seconds ...

1.5 minutes of intense destruction ...

- poor folk

- help ...

Which part did I get wrong ?

Ed: that sounded a little sarcastic. that was not my intention ...

Wow! I think I'd be freaking out just because I've never in my life experienced any earthquake.

I'm glad to hear that you got through it, but I can see why it would make you nervous. Hope you all get through all right. I'm just up insanely early because my 5-year-old earthquake has decided sleep is for weenies.
