Check it out, ATS. A man has created a real life lightsaber. While it's not that practical and your movements with it can't be too sudden, I think it's a nice attempt.

What says ATS?

It's a flame thrower. Use a lighter and a can of WD40.

I fixed your video.

It's basically a torch. I'd still like to have one; although I know I'll get in a lot of trouble with it.

I wouldn't turn that on in a car or other confined space or on a windy day outside DangerouS..

I'm just waiting for someone to create a cluster of blue/green laser LEDs around a car aerial and with a mirror at the end to reflect back the beams.

I'd love to watch the burnt hands when the aerial gets bumped and the reflecting mirror doesn't point straight back anymore.

He's a fun guy. He sort of grows on you.

Yeah, Phage. It has a long way to go but it's a start. I think the technology to create a real working Lightsaber doesn't quite exist yet.

Not if you're looking for an actual "light" saber.
But a heated plasma held by shaped magnetic field might fit the bill.

Oh, except for the power supply.

Squirting lighter fluid doesn't cut it though.

Works great on hornets nests.

Pro-carb cleaner is the real bomb though...

Lighter fluid doesn't cut it, of course, that could have been done back in the 70's. At least he is actually making an attempt at doing it. I applaud him for that.

I'm all about seeing a demo of a functional lightsaber.

Even if the power supply doesn't fit in the handle. Just to see a proof of concept would be good enough.

Uh huh. And what kind of crystal powers it again?

Yeah. But a plasma blade is not really a "lightsaber."

Actually, I think that Lucas got the basic idea from Niven. Making it glow makes a better visual for the movies.

I think I'll stick with companies like Ultra Sabers, Saber Forge, and many others that make plastic bladed weapons. Until someone makes a plasma blade controlled by magnetic fields, otherwise it's not much better than a plasma torch.

Why torch Jar Jar's likeness though? Who doesn't love Jar Jar?

Early sabers had a power pack that was external and worn on your belt I believe, connected by a power cable.

And you can go to a decently equipped metal shop and see one in action.

Lighting could be considered a natural lightsaber, with enough of a charge you could probably get the plasma cutting action too.
