It was not a hollowed out bible that the disk was in. It was Jaan Baudrillard's Simulacra and Simulation (Wikipedia), that he retrieved the disk from.

The work is a post modern classic. It is about society, symbols and the nature of reality. The idea being, if we are in a simulation it because we have replaced meaning with symbols that intrinsically have no meaning. Basically, we already live in a simulation via symbolism. In postmodernism, the term "subject" is a touchstone to show the duality of Baudrillard; "subject of" and "subject to" at the same time. You are part of it and also it is playing you. The white rabbit is a symbol too! Read the Wikipedia entry for some in depth thoughts. Go down the rabbit hole and read the book itself (it is a philosophical treatise which means it is responding to other philosophical works. A sentence about another work may have an accordion (wth? I thought it ended "ian"?!!) of meaning that you might miss if your not read in the subject matter).

Later when Morpheus says, "Welcome to the desert of the real" he is quoting from that book!

dude when morpheus says "welcome to the desert of the real" the camera does this movement.. the movement is one I've done outside of body and when it finished you are in the desert of the real. I hope it actually means in that book what it always meant for me. well I've sometimes felt that "desert" all the symbolism is gone, there is no I and you.. there is nothing happening. It's a damn desert with no meaning. but it's real..

it has a similar fear factor about it as death or hell. Definitely not comfortable if you start thinking like that. Makes you think.. I'll stay on the ride for now please..

I can' remember that's either the 6th world or the 7th world. A new heaven and a new earth are easy concepts to fit into a simulation if you think about it.

So my whole life has had this double nagging system to it. My nagging feelings are complete opposites. One is to live a normal life, forget all the other stuff.. That life "has a future" to quote the matrix, the other does not.. The other nag is to figure it out cut through the edge.. And every time I do cut through I'm like ahh no no no stop what if you break it or get out and you're all alone?! What if you're not supposed to know? What if when someone figures it out? that's just the timing for "god" to have to makes the next sandbox? Live a normal life man this # is fun... But but but.. somethings not quite right.. I need to figure it out.. Somethings wrong with the world.

the word happiness annoys you? You're not about to tell me it's a silly word because it has no meaning are you?
I'm truly balls deep in happiness like 99% of the time.

Funny because I hate language, in the same vain as what TeoT was saying about that book. And why I keep trying to confuse it so that it's not the words that you get from me, at some point with enough angles it's just a direct shared knowing.

Do you also not like more specific words like gratitude?

I love waking up to a reality where I'm not going to jail for the rest of my life.. Ahh now THAT is freedom.

No, it just describes something so subjective it's basically meaningless. My "happiness", as in fulfilment of my wishes, would be a total nightmare. What you call happiness, I would call a positive attitude.
So there three happiness and no idea what we are talking about.

And I know TEOTWAWKIAIFF is really good. He did it to me too a few times. Always good. Best clue giver ever.

Clue giver? Nah, just well read. I've got a bookshelf full of crazy, random, funny, dumb, interesting, confusing, out there *flutters hand* stuff, alongside the books needed for schooling: English lit, philosophy, comp sci, philosophy, and music.

Cognitive science is what AI was and that crosses over to philosophy of mind. Those ideas and the pondering of "what is consciousness" so you can make an electronic version is what drew me to the topic. But it was self exploration (reading, T&C we cannot discuss, becoming a vegetarian for nearly a year, the rush of snowboarding down huge mountains, spacing out while playing guitar, and having full on woo experiences) that kind of leads me everywhere. Being well versed in many topics comes in handy! Being forced to read all types of literature reinforces my Buddha-calmness which battles my personal frustration at people that are not even trying. *rolls eyes*

I forget that not everybody has read books on nuclear fusion or the history of philosophy. Or is current with Slavoj Zizek and Dilbert! I'll take "hint giver" though!

Even with all that I still get things wrong! I am only light having a human experience (maybe or maybe not in a simulation) after all!

The problem with ufology, paranormal investigation, spiritual pursuit is, it's as if only the patients are researching their own infection. It seriously baffles me, how the official standpoint can still be it doesn't exist.
And I could be wrong, but as you said if we're dealing with whole eco-systems... no wonder it's so inconsistent.

And I was thinking maybe demons are just test-holograms to see how you react to the very different appearance and behaviour of a "other"?

Well....

Demons have been on my ass since I was 3 or 4 years old. You'd think they would have had something better to do.

I don't "see" pictures. I dream in vivid technicolour. As soon as I close my eyes to sleep I get a slide show, picture imposed upon picture, but seldom anything that I can identify, just a total mash-up. If I am asked to "picture" something or someone, I can't. Since realising that when other people are asked to picture something, they can, I have been trying to identify others who can't picture things and am yet to do so. I haven't seen my Dad since then, but I am kind of holding out that he may have the same thing. Anyway, that is why I never know how my paintings and pictures are going to turn out. I still prefer writing, but painting allows me to "picture" concisely a general outline of what I intend writing about. Each picture being a story within a story.

Sure there is an increasing number who are... nerds, or say top-heavy. They don't have to go. Who wants to, can apply. But first settlements are a physical adventure.
And we still have to face poverty, the environment issues we caused, explore justice and it's benefits for society more in depth, abolish immunity, no more secrets, since it's absurd the aliens would tell everybody everything anyways...
Global cooperation. Content centered democracy, with much more power to the people.

And this time if they came to pick a few of us up, we wouldn't have to invent stories. Star people style. As simple as that.
