Google searches about different conspiracy theories kept bringing me to ATS. I didn't put much thought into it though, simply seeing ATS as another website. As in, I was more focused on the research topic than the source of the content.

Then, many times when I was researching non-conspiracy things, ATS threads would still come up. I don't believe much of anything I read at first, so I like to find vastly different perspectives on the issue in order to get a better idea of what's going on. Needless to say, I still didn't pay much attention to the site itself (lol sorry).

Then I temporarily quit my self imposed boycott of pop culture & the music biz, and started trying to catch up on a lot of stuff. The whole "Eye of Horus/Illuminati!!!" crap was in full effect. Some of my coworkers at the time were astonished that I knew nothing about it all. I kept laughing at the relative absurdity of it because I'd studied the real Illuminati & the European "Age of Enlightenment". So seeing "gangsta rappers" and pop singers talking about it & the Freemasons was funny to me. It was like if country singers went through a Genghis Khan or Saladin fad. lol

Anyway, I became fascinated with how deep people were going with it, so I obsessed over the basics & the other secret societies of the time. I'd researched real cults & secret societies a long time ago, but that was when I was trying to learn power so I could conquer the world. Now I wanted to see it from the perspective of pop music, if that even makes sense.

Needless to say, ATS was one of the sites that kept coming up, especially when everyone started freaking out about the Mayan Apocalypse, 2012!!!, the 2012 Rapture, etc. I found myself coming back every few weeks, just to read different opinions at the time. I didn't expect to actually join the site or even to remember any of the posters. I don't mean that in a bad way, just that I usually go on vastly different websites to see different human perspectives on things (including hate sites, hoax sites, and yes, even "official narrative" and official government sites).

I realized I was addicted when the Ebola hysteria reached its peak during the 2014 election cycle. I'd been viewing a lot of the other threads (like the epic Ferguson protest thread that had liveleaks & everything). But it was the Ebola threads & the subsequent disappearance of the hysteria a week after the elections were over that made me actually think about joining. I kept wanting to rant about how everyone was being manipulated, no one cared about Ebola when its other outbreaks were only killing Africans, etc.

There was even a good thread by our brother CharlieSpeirs (sp?) showing the different Muslim groups and communities that were actively opposing the extremists. I didn't know it was Charlie at the time, since I literally didn't look at the usernames, but it was a thread I'd actually pointed friends towards. Anyway, I eventually quit lurking & the rest is history. (sorry so long but I'm deliberately procrastinating b/c i have some boring work i don't want to do)

Threads like this seem to pop up every year or so, and I love reading each one of them, because new people are constantly joining and the sites constantly evolving, which makes it fun reading about the stories we all researched (tried to better understand) that drove us all here...

a reply to: Ghost147 Nice way to stumble onto this place.

How did I stumble onto Above Top Secret? It was my senior year in high school and I had watched Swing Kids in German class. A movie about a group of teens in nazi Germany and what they go through as world war II looms upon them; I was greatly moved by the movie and decided to do research into world war II.

Among that research I came across a link to an article about black plastic coffins and that the government was stock piling them in the event of world war III, looking further into that I stumbled upon a link to a thread on this wonderful site talking about it. And then I was hooked on exciting doom porn until 2012.

And now I'm into Metaphysics and Philosophy,

About a decade ago, my ex got heavily into researching the Illuminati. it became all consuming for him, and I believe was the edge of the cliff that led to his mental illness. Regardless, when you live with someone who researches 24/7 and has carefully laid out 2 hour long speeches for you daily on new findings...one needs to do their own research for proper debate. Blame it on google...

Mmm ok that was interesting .. how come they are not repurchasing on regular basis .. you would be able to provide purchase orders from various funeral centres or something like that .. Sorry for the tread derail no need to answer

I was told about ATS back in about 2004 or 2005 by a workmate and lurked for a while before signing up. Initially I was into UFOs and alien stuff but I became interested in a lot of other stuff such as government conspiracy and so forth. One of the places I worked at had a big building constructed next to it which is a real 'spooky' place where no one is seen coming or going. It has an electrified fence running right around the perimeter and if you disturb the fence guards come out. It was supposed to have been staffed by Aussies but is staffed by Americans apparently. This got me interested in ATS. The building is still there doing its thing whatever that is- probably intelligence gathering.

I watched Ancient Aliens and was confused why they never presented the other side of the story. So I googled ancient alien theory and found an ATS topic on it. The rest is history.

I was searching for more info on the DaVinci Code and it led me here. Then the 2012 threads and all the other interesting topics kept me lurking for years before I joined. Ive learned a lot here. There are so many great threads here.

I simply was told by a poster in another forum that the people at ATS would be much nicer and the MODs much more moderate than in there.

But that was back in 2007 when we looked critically at every UFO report and analysed photos, vids and witness reports, which were thrown in here every few days.

Now the most interesting part is that ATS has become more international since than.

Like others, who have responded, I think I've answered this before. I can't remember for sure but, I believe my first years of reading (anonymously) were triggered by a google search. I would imagine something to do with 9/11. Also, I had an odd experience after my Dad passed and I had often looked for information regarding that. The paranormal stuff. I had begun a "lifestyle" (if you will) of not sleeping much...I suppose I had become bored in my "real life" social circle. Perhaps they had become bored with me.
I looked up my "join" date and it was a few days after the Fukushima Earthquake.
I may have just wanted an identity in case "this is it!"...LOL I had "lost" my "real life" identity, in a way. I had some "diagnoses" and it just sent me into a tailspin...

I do remember thinking that if I didn't like being an "official" member, I would just log out and never log in "officially" again. Return to being an "anonymous" reader.
I have enjoyed "eavesdropping" on the conversations of such knowledgeable folks, been entertained by the debates, love listening to different ideas, theories and the like and having something to occupy my thoughts and give me ideas to ponder and search (research)...on many a sleepless night...
Now I've made a few "friends" and even "worry" if I haven't seen one of them in a while. I think it becomes addictive to folks like myself. I find it difficult to find folks who want to talk about anything other than the "mundane". Really, IMO, we are bombarded with the mundane...it's exciting, almost healing, to open your mind to something else...

a reply to: Layaly Good Morning.
And it's cool, I'll answer as long as it's aloud.
Do you mean the government should be able to buy whatever coffins they need from funeral centers??
I guess they could? But then again they would probably just buy their coffins directly from the manufacture; I don't know. The conspiracy was a doom porn one; just unfounded exciting doom porn; back when I was into that stuff.

I was looking for information about masons. I had a lot of questions, and no idea where to find answers. Had I not came here, I might not have joined. There were enough members here who had amazing knowledge and patience that I was hooked quickly. Then I got into the 9-11 stuff, and stumbled on a few other conspiracies that peaked my interest. I'd say the longer I am here, the less I believe in conspiracies. I know some are real, and feel pretty sure most have some rooting in reality, but the level of debunking seen here and the quality of information provided really isn't seen anywhere else. I came looking for truth. You have to dig, but you can find it here.

And every change SO has made to the site made me angry and want to leave at the time, but so far, every change made has been for the better, after I adjusted.

So, how did you discover AboveTopSecret?

I've spent my life destroying humanity from behind the scenes with my reptilian bretheren.

Until recently.

We have been thwarted time and time again by some accursed website.

I was sent to investigate.

As I was channeling the "Most Holy Brenda" she spoke to me in a most resonant voice and said....

"precious one, are you in tune with the "nine"....I said..."nuh uh" she said...."I really think you should be"

I googled "the nine" and it lead me here....Praise Brenda!!
