Exactly.

I see people sleeping in brand new cars on some of my late night walks on consistent basis.

It's craziness. Four of my friends have moved recently and they were all well off, complaining about cost of living. I mean between gas prices and food cost my lord!

It wasn't this bad when I left 3 years ago it was still bearable.

You can get a full one bedroom apartment in a nice area for that price in my metro area. Price for a room in a nice house can be $400. We have section 8 over here, but I'd certainly not want to live in it.

If you increase minimum wage, you drive prices up. A more productive approach would be to reduce taxes (preferably to a flat tax on consumption), and let industry provide local jobs. Then the cost of living will drop over time. There is no quick fix. Socialism needs to be taken out of the picture.

It would also help if the border was tighter and immigration laws enforced to open jobs back up to legal residents and citizens.

California is always shooting itself in the foot, how long will it be before we hear that there is a housing shortage in California, because developers got tired of giving away their houses for free so they stopped building in California.

There's already housing shortages in areas and they are building like mad.

I don't know what's going on in Japan but apparently they love spending money here and moving here.

Irvine has doubled in size in the 3 years I was gone.
