Its usualy the western religions that have problems with sex.

Personaly I think the only kind of sex that is wrong is incest.

NOTE: I'm A-sexual and I do not masturbate.

Lol, ok, no prob ww...(me hands you very big cup of columbian supreme coffee)

As to Indigo's original question, "Which aspects of human sexuality are wrong according to your religion?" it is interesting that so many here have taken the opportunity to go elsewhere with it, completely ignoring the question. For me, I suppose, not being very religious, there are some things about certain religions that really bug me, and that seem excessive.

For instance, in Romanian culture, it is improper for a woman once married to wear her hair down. It is ok for her when single, but even around her home it is improper once married. Another aspect that bugs me about some religions is the "arranged marriage" situation. That really disturbes me that two people are married, in many cases never even having met before, and in some cases are even related, like cousins. Other things include the extremist use of biblical terms such as "A woman must submit to her husband".

In that same culture, a woman is basically a slave, and is spoken to as such. That bugs me. I have witnessed it recently, due to attending thankgiving dinner at a home of Romanians. While the food was great and I was very thankful, I will never forget how I was pretty much shut up by the man of the house when I attempted to compliment the women on the tremendous job they did with the dinner. I just don't understand why a woman would submit to that, being free to do as she pleases living here in America.

Since when was being Romanian a religion ? Darn, to avoid being slapped with another penalty tonight, I got to type in further words like Romania sounds to me like a country and not a religion and that you are not talking about sex but chauvinism.

until very recent times it was not uncommon for people to marry at young ages
in many cultures. of course the maturity level was much higher at those ages
also.

please define incest. this term can mean several things to different cultures.

Well, I see your point, but you kinda missed mine. They are religious, and follow the Bible, but twist it into their own extremist interpretations to oppress the woman species. And of course it has to do with sex. Why else would they do such things. In some religions, the mere look of a woman "the wrong way" at another man, can give her husband the right to severely punish, and even kill her. Sex is the underlying issue, and I could go on and on about such stupid things. they are all aspects of human sexuality in religion, which, ehem, addresses the original question.

Ohh ! Sorry about that. I must have focused on the "masturbation" aspect of the post and did not see the logic in the connection between Romanians being religious and chauvanistic and therefore their chauvanism is due to religion.

Well, I would agree with you but safety first, safety first. I would be extremely worried if each time I went to town for groceries was for purposes of procreation !

I just thought of something. Was there a concept of "pornography" when the bible was written? I am assuming it is forbidden in christianity. But then, what would constitute of pornography? naked people? naked people in the act? clothed people in the act? clothed people being suggestive? semi-clothed people in the act?
The reason I ask, is because most of that shows on regular TV. Would christians be sinning by watching TV?
Not that I am saying classifying watching TV as a sin is a bad idea

Well, I suppose that's a common thread in major religions and societies today. It's ok with that special partner/person but not ok when done with pure unadulterated lust as the gas for the pump.

Porn's been around ever since humans worked out that they could draw. As for organised porn, once again our friendly decadent Romans seemed particularly keen on it, guys like Caligula. Then again, there wasn't too much Caligula wasn't keen on!

babloyi, I dun think watching tele is sinful per se. Going a bit far on that. Obviously there are types of programs being aired, adult/mature themes, childrens' programs, documentaries and sports. So, problem may lie with programming but not with watching tele. Shame on you. Big Bird would be so offended...

Whoa lady! I meant a common thread in most major religions and societies today. Not my preferences. Lust, pure unadulterated lust does just fine.

Am I really going a bit far? Not that I agree with any of this, it's just examples, but what about all those music videos? TV shows like "Friends" or "Baywatch" I have seen little kids anticipating these shows and watching them.

ATS comes up with the most interesting subject topics

To me this thread seems more moralistic than idealogical, there are practical and non-practical reasoning behind everyones arguements, in some cases:

sex is physically and mentally wrong:
- Insest
- Sex while carrying a sexual diesease

and some cases good:
- Populate world....but lets not over populate it too much

- Shared pleasure between couple

and in some cases sex in the style of orgies can be morally and socially bad becasue it can...sorry ...will lead to disloyalty to a partner/wife/husband.

Just my opinion

Look at what happens when the Sexual nature is repressed;

Religious Leaders that take vows of Abstinance have been getting arrested and charged with Rape, Pedophelia, sodomy, etc. This is headline news since the Church knew and covered these actions up. I am not sure what the Rationale is; its ok to sodomize, molest, rape members of your own sex as long as you dont touch a Woman..?

What we call the Witch Burnings during the middle ages; This was an especially "Puritan" time. Highly regulated social behavoir regarding sex and women was developed during this time. So what happens? Accused Women are strip searched, minutely inspected for anything that could be regarded as a mark of "the devil".
This was nothing more than pornography, and when these sickos were finished with the innocent woman, she was burned alive, drowned, tortured, ect. cover up the crime, and off to the next poor soul that tempts the sexual nature of weak men. Yes, there were political and financial benifits to this, but it was temptation that drove this fanatical movement.

The latest hysteria surrounding gay lifestyles. WHo cares what someone else does in their bedroom? does that impact anyone else? People have been gay as long as there have been people. The same passages in the Bible that condemn homosexuality also comdemn touching the skin of a dead pig, planting crops of different plants in the same field, allowing your wife to enter your house on her period, etc.
When football is outlawed, cottages built for your wife to stay in on her period, and segregation of crops mandated, then gay lifestyles can be addressed. Until then get over it, Jesus did.

The best cultures to visit are sexually liberated, open and free. Polynesian, Latin, Scandinavian, etc. It is how people were made to be.

Well, I suppose you are not talking about watching tele but the kind of programs and their content which is being cranked out by the studios.

Difficult one when it comes to kids. Have they reached puberty ? Quite apart from understanding the birds and the bees and the excitement of it all, it could be that kids watch baywatch for the life-saving drama. I really don't know why kids watch baywatch.

But my point was that there are many types of programs on tv and if I was watching Discovery Channel on the topic of Steam Engines, I would not like to think that I would be sinning.
