Ask some former Cubans too!

One of my good friends and neighbors is a Cuban, who defected and came here....
(he's not a "former" Cuban, he is Cuban - and brought his culture and sensibilities with him)......
he is self-employed and his wife is a head nurse.......they are lovely people. Happily married, down to earth, normal people.

Guess who he supports? (They both do)
BERNIE

Guess who he thinks is the worst? (They both do)
TRUMP

Go figure.

Okay cool. One anecdotal story. I totally rescind my remarks.......

Not

Well pick one then, because there is no grey space here! You either agree with taxation based healthcare, run for the people, not for profit, or you believe that the sick, the weak, and the unemployed should be left to rot/put into crippling debt! There are no two ways about the issue!

You said to ask a former "Cuban." I did. Was reporting back the results (I asked him last summer while we were working on my house).

I've worked with Hispanic immigrants for over 20 years.....
how many "former Cubans" do you know?
I mean, like really KNOW?
(ElectricUniverse doesn't count - we all know him)

I have my own rig but this is not about me. I am almost 600 miles away from my home as we speak, I haven't been home in almost 2 years. It is not cheap to run a rig and it isn't easy to just an go when ppl want to rip you off, taxes, and other issues involved.

If I were you I would just update my certs and go work in some out of the way place for a huge oil company and rake in the $$$$.....just saying...

Sorry off topic

You literally asked them to ask somebody who was from those areas.

Now that you have your response, you choose to ignore it?

Way to move the goal post.

I get it about taxes and such. But when you work for yourself you set your own prices because you've done the math necessary to know how much money you need to make to make a healthy profit and afford to pay taxes.

My husband was labor carpenter for 40 yrs. I remember when the trades were strong and people had Money after paying the bills. Now unions are weak and so is the middle class.

19.6 trillion divided by 10 equals $1.96 trillion more per year in taxes. Divide that by the population of 318 million and that equals out to about $6.16 more per person per year in taxes.

But let's be generous and cut that number in half to 160 million people since not everyone pays income tax (children/elderly), that still only equals out to about $12.32 more in taxes per person per year. Oh the humanity!

Or am I doing the math wrong here?

Your math is way off... but I've never accused liberals of being good at math.

$19,600,000,000,000 trillion
1,600,000,000,000 per year
122 million federal tax payers in US so...

1,600,000,000,000 / 122,000,000 = $16,065 increase in taxes per year.

Keep in mind that the bulk of the taxes paid are actually paid by the top wage earners, so the real effect is more pronounced.

Welders are not making an awful lot these days, the system is making the profession take a turn for the worse. As I had illustrated before in this thread being able to weld and be good at it makes a little bit better then someone starting in the fast food career. (Yeah I said career ppl do FF as a career these days)

10 an hour to start at mickey Ds no experience

13 an hour to weld at a big company with 5 years experience

You don't see a problem with this?

$10 an hour???

Remember there are entire STATES that want to jump to $15 an hour...to work in SERVICE.

Welders are starting out at that in many of the jobs I see. I inspected welds and a good welder is hard to find.

But these jackholes think Welders should be on the same rung as a waitress??

Trust me I know all about it, I am certified in lots of things all of which I had to pay out of pocket one way or the other to obtain, yet big companies these days want to always try and beat you out of what is owed. I did a tub grinder for a junkyard a few months ago for $80 an hour. The yard didn't want to pay, it took 5 months to chase them down for the money. Just to obtain a TWIC card to work on energy sector and gov sites is an out of pocket cost of $250 and your life picked through with a comb and this is before you can even try and test out. I was doing purge chamber titanium tig welding a while back and them guys didn't want to pay either. Hell bid out and won a Job doing a VA hospital in Brockton Mass not long ago as a sub, lol this twerp tried to get each job bid down to an individual work number to screw the VA and me so I drug up lol he basically wanted 2 mile of handrail tig welded for $500. I weld everything from mild steel to hardox 440 all the through my alloys incnel an monel to aluminum and titanium, yet people want to pay low dollar and expect time on my machine and the consumables and insurance is something I just give away.

The only reason I called you on it is because so far, you've been one of the better voices of reason on the other side of this argument and I've been very much enjoying this little discussion you've been having with me and other members.

I would not want you to lose ground on a technicality

Your argument is sorta like "Youre either with the terrorist or with us".

There are many grey areas here. Especially when speaking of the enigma known as "America"

And the complete FAILURE of Socialist policies in our culture. Sorry

LOL, okay so one guy gave an anecdote and called me on it (in a way)....

Sue me....

My point was that former PURE socialist citizens of socialist nations, in GENERAL, would never go back to that system.

That I have met...

Refinery welders made more on the 70's than today!!!!

Why did wages drop you ask?

Because they broke our unions!

Early 70's $25 the 90's (20yrs later) $19.50 and no more double or triple overtime, just time and a half.

Still good pay if you work 90 or 100 hrs a week, just a lot less than before the unions were broke.

So?

LA has many Hispanics, but the majority of them are Mexican. The Cubans and Puerto Ricans are mostly in the Eastern part of the US.
Just because someone speaks Spanish does not mean they are "Cuban".

By the way, do you speak Spanish?

Perception is important.

Which kinda brings me back to the whole Bernie thing. The perception that his opponents are trying to paint is that he's a do nothing socialist with pie in the sky policies that will never work.

But they spend more time showing Hillary talking about that, then Bernie actually explaining how he wants to do things.

And I never thought I'd say this seriously but that damn Liberal Media is sorta to blame for that.
