Do we need a freedom of information trade agreement?

I came to the realization that if everyone in the world was connected to the same internet we would sooner realize how similar we all actually are to one another helping to end all of this division.

Ok sentence over.

Now after I thought this I wondered what kind of solution would make this possible. One thing that kept coming to mind was dictatorships and places like China who have state run media.

The only solution I could really come up with is governments coming together to create and international information trade agreement that neutrilizes the countries ability to limit the free flow of information from one country to the next.

Maybe we can use the Internet as a way to ring the world together.

It would certainly help, and so far it has in more ways than one, however, there will always be prejudice, regardless of how obvious and acceptable we make information.

There pretty much is just one internet.

Nice idea. But why would say, China, have any interest in participating? They sure don't now. What incentive would you offer?

I don't know i assume we'd have to have enough incentive to leverage them financially.

So dictatorships and places like China are supposed to voluntarily subvert their own governments by allowing the "free flow" of information? Not that I don't want to see them subverted, but how, specifically, are you going to get them to go along with such a deal? What's in it for them?

This sounds very much like you want to force western values onto every nation in the world, some of which would not be excited to see click bait ads and pornography piped into every home.

Your 100% right!

In theory this would be a great idea, in practice, it would never work. Too many countries have too widely different policies on the privacy and security of data. Before it has a hope of working and being acceptable, data privacy laws/policies would need standardising, globally.
