Because they are trying to fix the problem with the totally wrong solution.
Making guns more illegal is not the right way to let anyone defend themselves or their families.

The US doesn't have a gun problem as much as it has an inner city thug culture problem.

That is where 99% of America's gun problems arise.

More guns!

That'll solve the issue... or so a lot of US citizens on ATS try to tell me.

Uh, no -- these are criminals. If you banned guns -- they'd still have them. What you need to do is bring money into the ghettos, bring honest jobs that pay well enough for people to afford to live there. What you need to do, is uplift the populations wallets so they don't have to turn to crime to save money.

Poverty = Crime. Guns have nothing to do with it.

This was the democratic argument to solve the ISIS/ISIL problem. If it sounds funny for terrorism, its still funny for gang members. I am sure they will stop selling dope to go work in that minimum pay job that doesn't take any skills because selling crack isn't considered a labor skill.

Police tend to not want to deal with gang violence. After all, those bad guys are armed.

Funny how gang violence does not come up much as a problem much in the gun control debate. I don't think anyone wants to take on that beast.

that's because it's in all parts of the country and growing.....here in Stockton cal., there are shootings every day and armed robberies in broad daylight in all sections of town...there are daylight armed carjackings, multiple shots fired into homes almost daily, even groups of 4 to 5 males who are playing basketball at dusk, get robbed at gunpoint...and mall shopping??.....few females go to the mall alone after dark, even with mall security driving around....it's happening all around the U.S......the problem is, a billionaire blowhard new Yorker, get's more airtime in an afternoon, than this does in an entire year.

The fear is supposed to be from foreigners, not inside the US. Admitting to this is admitting to a huge problem and no one in any government level wants to admit they have a major failure.

I bet many think to them selves "Maybe most people won't notice".
