During his speech on new gun control laws Obama teared up talking about the children shot at Newtown.

With the insanely limited ability to track (essentially post arrest confessions)...they already tracked 4 firearms used in crimes to that site...and there are other sites and instances of online guns purchased without background checks. I am reluctant to list all the sites where people can and do buy firearms absent background check and often anonymously for obvious reasons, but having spent some time looking into it...they are out there and criminals can and do buy weapons online.

I agree with mental health checks because mass shooters are all bat crazy. I also agree with gun safety technology. I'm all for safety and I see no wrong in researching it. I know a family who has guns, loaded, all over their house and always has. The kids are taught to respect the gun, how to use it, etc. But they are the minority and there are plenty of families who hide their weapons from everyone, kids included, but even the ones who know about the gun still hurt themselves or their friends.
If only the mother of the Sandy Hook shooting had better gun safety technology, and a brain.
Hundreds of millions of households have guns in them. People with kids that respect firearms aren't the minority in my opinion.
They make a big deal about buying online, when that's not an issue at all. If you buy a brand new firearm online, it has to be sent to a Federal Firearm Licensed dealer, once that happens the FFL dealer runs the background check before you can leave the store with it.
*Increase mental health treatment and reporting to the background check system*
Increasing mental health treatment is a plus, long as only doctors are able to say who is unfit to own a weapon.
*Shape the future of gun safety technology*
No one going trust "smart guns", technology can fail, plus that would open the door to allow the government to demand the right to disable the gun remotely once technology is available.

You can't purchase any guns "on line " without an FFL involved, but you can make contacts through emails or phones and meet with buyers or sellers for a gun transaction. Here in Wi. you can use mwt.net and armslist to make contacts.

Once they know and have that registry, then confiscation for everyone or certain groups can be implemented at any time with little warning. It's too late and they can come and search and seize and if you don't have a gun or have one not registered ... Look out!

Not so much paranoia, New Orleans taught us differently. They took guns from private owners holed up, but left the armed guards of the wealthy and private businesses alone despite a statement that only cops would be armed.
