Wow. Sounds like a good deal. Too bad I don't own any guns or I'd be able to make some money.

Australia's gun control program started with a voluntary gun buy-back also.

Buy a 3-D printer and materials if this becomes law. If the government is so stupid to do such a thing it is our duty as citizens to default them and start anew.

Now why would I let "them" know the sorts of guns I own, what I'm likely to buy in the future?

Anyhow, all my guns have stories and history behind them that I'm not about to sell, just to "upgrade". They all shoot straight, and are as dependable as the sunrise. I've no reason to get rid of 'em.

This simply further illustrates the incompetence of politicians. It confirms our dear leaders have no clue about everyday issues.

Criminals will always find a way to commit crime, and this proposal here is so juicy not just for criminals but for any citizen looking for a new firearm and free ammunition - which is what I would buy with my extra 25%!!

Lets say this was implemented (although it wont be), and ends up failing like we all know it would... I bet then, the next idiot politician/progressive would propose 100% over market price. 2 for 1!!!!

Lmfao!

This "Cash for Clunkers" legislation will probably not come to pass unless an EO comes out for it. This would be a great economic boom for the gun industry just like Cash for Clunkers was for Auto sales!

You could take all of your junk, broken, and crappy firearms in, get paid full price plus 25% and go buy new working / better firearms! (not using the visa card they give you, use that for other bills.)

Cashing in the 401k, I'm going buy a million dollars worth of old warn out broken guns and then retire and buy a good number of $5,000 or high priced guns..WOOT!

So 23 Representatives want this...

Out of 435 people in the House of Representatives...

So, 5% of Representatives want this? The headline makes it sound like this is some kind of immediate, call-to-arms for gun enthusiasts.

You know, dissenting ideas on things doesn't equate to an immediate threat. I get that people want others to think like they do, and can't understand why they won't ... but its simply silly and teetering on fear mongering to throw articles around purporting that buybacks are coming.

Merry Christmas. I assume you haven't read the thread as we do not expect anything to come of this and are actually ridiculing the buyback program (as we have many others) as we can give them crap and buy new and better stuff... LOL

Oh...

I was going to reply with something along the lines of how a bunch of non-gun-owning Democrats couldn't possibly know "market value" on some guns to even tack on the extra 25%.

Used gun prices fluctuate depending on age, rarity, type, and location.

Here's a weird idea. What if the offered to give people more votes? Like you could vote twice if you gave up your guns? Wait...that wouldn't work, then they'd all vote twice and vote to get their guns back.

Oh well, I'm always looking for creative things to try. This world is horribly boring. I'd at least buy every American a cheeseburger if I was POTUS. Everyone loves cheeseburgers.

"Vote MM for POTUS: Everyone loves cheeseburgers -- we can all agree on that!"

I'd be the great uniter...with all beef patties and sharp cheddar cheese. "We can get back to gun safety tomorrow, right now we're all just a bunch of Americans enjoying an all-American classic!"

this bill will get guns off the streets and keep them out of the hands of people who wish to cause harm,”

No amount of wishful thinking is going to get guns out of the hands of criminals. Do they seriously believe some gang banger is going to show up and sell them his gun?
Delusional, bordering on just plain stupid.

Actually, these programs have been very successful in getting guns off the streets in other countries, they only work when they go hand in hand with making it more difficult/impossible to sell guns though.

I think the vegetarians will be offended by this.

Why should I, as a taxpayer, pay for all the guns collectors don't want?

Now if were a gun owner, it would be a great way to help me finance that upgrade I might be looking at. Buy the newer, more expensive firearm and trade in the old one to the government for more than it's actually worth.

I like creative stuff too.

If you didn't have to actually write a check to the government at income tax time that was more than what you get back on your return, then you don't vote?

We can amnesty you if you give up your right to vote?

You shouldn't get a refund at all if you do your taxes correctly. At tax time, you should owe zero, because you have paid the proper amount all year long. If you get a refund, that means you are over paying and the government has that money during the year when you could be putting it to better use. If you adjust your witholdings on your W-4 properly, you should't owe anything, and if you do get a refund it will be minuscule.
