Yay! It's a struggle around the holidays with a gluten intolerance or Celiac. The first year after dx it was iceberg lettuce salad with thousand island dressing while watching everyone enjoy all the delicious holiday food.

Most grocery stores in my area have a gluten free isle now with all kinds of options. For thanksgiving I made a pumpkin cheesecake with gf graham crackers, everyone enjoyed it, said they did at least lol.

Hope that worked ^^^
Crazy amount of fiddling to upload a pic ....

Sweet potato pie

1 1/4 cup sweet potato cooked and mashed (don't microwave)
3/4 cup milk
2/3 cup sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp allspice
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp vanilla

Blend together, pour into graham crumb crust, bake @ 375 for 30 min, then put on topping:
2/3 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 tbsp butter, room temperature
1 tsp flour

Back into oven for another 30 min - same temperature

It's even better the second day, if there's any left

So, this isn't really a "treat" per se but, something we make at holidays.

It will keep the kitchen clean while you are trying to prepare your meal and...it is just another one of those traditions.

I just finished making our breakfast casserole. I will cover it, refrigerate overnight, and in the morning it can be microwaved by serving for whomever is ready to eat. It can be microwaved later for those who are unable to eat early (hangovers!).

Hash brown taters...the square ones, frozen.
then we sometimes do real crumbled sausage but, this year I bought the Jimmy Dean "pre cooked" crumbled turkey sausage.
Spray a baking sheet or rectangle pan or whatever with baking spray.
Lay the hash browns down in the bottom (single layer).
Then sprinkle with the sausage.
Then take maybe 8 eggs or so for one pan and mix in bowl with green pepper and onion and pour over the tater/sausage layers.
Then sprinkle shredded cheese over the top.
Bake at 350 for about 1/2 hour...or until eggs are set...

YUM!!!! And so so bad for ya!

Here's the recipe for a different one we make sometimes.

Take a pound of sausage and brown, drain, and return to the pan.
Add 1 pound of cream cheese (trust me!).

Take whole mixture and pour into a rectangle pan.
Layer with crescent rolls...you know, the Pillsbury ones...in a can...

Bake until the rolls are lightly brown...

Now, this is a "treat" cause you wouldn't eat like this ALL OF THE TIME!!!

LOL it just cuts a few corners so you can spend more time with the fam...

Olive-Nut Spread

8 oz cream cheese
1/2 c mayonnaise
1/2 c chopped pecans
1 c. salad olives
2 tbsp. olive brine

1. Mash softened cream cheese
2. Blend cream cheese and mayonnaise well
3. Add chopped pecans, chopped olives and olive brine
4. Stir well
5. Put mixture in covered container in refrigerator for 24 to 48 hours to firm up.

I tend to use a blend of 1/2 c black olives and 1/4 c each green and kalamata olives, and I use a similar blend with the brines (1 tbsp. to 1/2 tbsp. each of the other two). You can adjust your mix of olives to taste.

Serve on your favorite crackers or pita chips.

We also tend to have pickled peaches on our holiday table. THese days, you more or less have to make them yourself.

I also make the fruitcake. I won't show off that recipe. It is an old family one that has very obviously been through both the Depression and WWII. You can tell.

Short of someone having a recipe they make money off of, I could never figure out why people would not want to share a recipe for GOOD FOOD!

for coming around!

my favorite holiday sweet: pecan pie. Just freaking love pecan pie.

I like custard pies in general, though.

This year we had bad weather, and i was being a lazy host. Forgot to get dessert, so had to whip up a cake that I had in the pantry. No frosting, though. So i made a chocolate and a peanut butter butter cream frosting, and used my new piping bag to make it pretty.

Now the whole family wants to me to make cake again for New Years.

Haha
I just had a quick google, and yes! Rice Bubbles are Rice Krispies. I would definitely recommend the recipe, it's delicious. (So much so, that I'm a terrible terrible person, and eat the mixture before it's set. And THEN! I eat the slices before anyone else gets a chance to.)

isn't it hard to cut when it's cold from the refrigerator??

This is dangerous ...and VERY good as well.....
Seven Layer Cookie
We cut the squares smaller than the recipes says....it's just too rich otherwise.

Hot knife!
Slices right through the chocolatey bubbles.
And that layered cookie... looks almost -too- delicious. I can see why it would be too rich.

My favorite treats are Gingerbread cookies and turkey. Yes, maybe they are traditional, but there is smth for me in this – some family magic from year to year.

As a tradition, we always have some great, slowly cooked salmon with rice and my mother's special pepper sauce. Best Christmas dish
