A British Muslim family heading for Disneyland was barred from boarding a flight to Los Angeles by US authorities at London’s Gatwick airport amid concerns of an American overreaction to the perceived terrorist threat.

US Department of Homeland Security officials provided no explanation for why the country refused to allow the family of 11 to board the planeeven though they had been granted travel authorization online ahead of their planned 15 December flight.

Senior politicians have been drawn into the case, warning that a growing number of British Muslims are being barred from the US without being told the reason for their exclusion.

US stops British Muslim family from boarding flight to visit Disneyland

This headline stunned me when I first saw it. Notice, that none of the American news outlets have run this story.

Have we gotten so scared that we're willing to deny access to the U.S. based on religion? I know Trump has thrown this out there but I really didn't think anyone would take the idea seriously because it is ludicrous. Now, the Obama admin agrees that this is the thing to do?? I guess we're going to have to tear down the Statue of Liberty because it has this poem on it:

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,

With conquering limbs astride from land to land;

Here at our sea-washed, sunset hates shall stand

A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame

Is the imprisoned lighting, and her name

Mother of Exiles. From her beacon hand

Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command

The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she

With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore,

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Thanks. That thread is focusing on the non-existent "why" of the story. I'd like to focus on the fact that there is no good reason to deny access to America short of being on the watchlist. The other thread is missing the point entirely.
