My avatar is me.

It was a picture taken in Kandahar, Afghanistan just after a long mission day. We were cleaning the guns.

I chose it because I am now out of the Army and a free man who doesn't have to hide behind alternative images.

My avatar is my son when he was tiny. Christmas theme now.. i always make my own avatars kinda like it that way

My avatar is a 700 lb stone found in a river bed in Oregon. It now sits in my front yard. We had not seen the character in the rock until a friend happened to take a picture of it from the right angle and at just the right time of day to account for the shadows making the face.

I like it because it it totally unique, only one in the whole world and it is a perfect example of 'pareidolia' which is the human ability to see something familiar in totally random objects. I like to refer to it a lot when people present 'proof' of something going on in a moon or mars photo.
