I'm new here. I bounced in from a link someone posted at the What If Modelers forum. I'm a sucker for quizzes of any kind, especially the "Can you identify this?" type. Waynos' is the first one with no answers, so here goes:

1. Vought F6U Pirate (their middle stinker, after the XF5U Flying Pancake and before the F7U Gutless)
2. Armstrong Whitworth AW.52 test vehicle
3. Douglas XB-42 Mixmaster
4. Heck if I know
5. Shorts Sunderland

Correct again, and I thought that maybe too hard. Maybe the real ID nuts are getting into this now? We'll just have to see how the next lot go.

Sorry, none of the above.

Incidentally, I will be surprised if "3.???
4.??? " doesn't appear quite often with this selection.

Well the one that looks like a lanc could possible be a halifax?

Very hard to tell with the given angle. Very similar look to the lancaster though (I live near one of the two remaining flying lancs...

ajsr71, well done. 4 out of five is pretty good, especially when you got the Gamma and the Conestoga. Tell me, have you discovered the source of the pics? LOL!

Otlg has to take the credit for getting the Halifax however, the answers 1 Whirlwind and 2 Lancaster are what I was half expecting, all part of my devious plan

Pic 2 is indeed the Halifax but Pic 1 is still up for grabs before the next lot go up.

Welcome aboard Richard, and yes, of course that is right

The reason the Halifax looks like a Lanc is because it is fitted with Merlin Engines.

Hey come on now.. how do I not get credit for the Conestoga
.. I mean all metal rivetless construction is a pretty unique (only aircraft I know of to be made that way) feature

'Cos the aim is to give the name not say how it was built
I was going to urge you to name it as you obviously knew but I was too late. There'll be a few more in a few minutes, and I was only going to do a set a day but you guys are keen and good!

the first two are easy:

#1 Wyvern originally a day fighter and torpedo bomber.

#2 535 (I think) part of the Swift program:

www.thunder-and-lightnings.co.uk...

#3 I should know this one, but I can't remember the name for the life of me..

I'll pass on #4 and #5
