My personal favourite topic is the relationship and historical similarities which are shared between the Late Roman Empire and America (from inception to today) and how they both have led to the situation we now see in the Middle East.

And SO FEW see it!!!

Since before "The Great Recession", I've been watching that parallel myself!

You asked for it. Now you've got it.

Use this forum to examine all the historical events that have influence conspiracy theories past and present, as well as current events and the generally messed up state of the world and geopolitics.

You know the drill... with great power comes... yeah, you've got the rest.

Now be off with you and make this forum great.

Great move for ATS!

I applaud you, sir!

A big leather topped desk as well, and a high back leather chair that swivels.

I will dust off my smoking jacket and bubble pipe!

Now, let's get comfy in our studious surroundings and settle in for great historical tales!

This is going to be interesting. Different people's history isn't always written the same.

History was my best subject in college, I was all for it.

Let see what historical topics will be posted.

"History is a lie agreed upon".

As America begins to wipe certain time periods from its history, it will be interesting to see how people pick and choose what history should reflect. (i.e. some countries which has been involved in a war since non stop since the 70's, will be agreed on as a liberator or a war monger)
will death tolls indicate whom terrorists are or will death tolls from war crimes and the purporters point the finger on who the criminals really are? time will tell... maybe.

Regardless of your own stance on the issue, I believe it to be an excellent topic and very worthwhile in a History forum.
Someone will, no doubt, start it here. I may even partake therein myself.

My personal favourite topic is the relationship and historical similarities which are shared between the Late Roman Empire and America (from inception to today) and how they both have led to the situation we now see in the Middle East.

That's a thread I'd like to see and participate in.

History, lest we repeat the bad stuff, is essential... Let's face it, a lot of it was bad. Thanks for the new Forum! Way to go Krazy! (pun - bad pun - intended)

As to those wanting to slough Nazism, a totalitarian corporatism, into the economic non-political ideas of "Socialism," well, that has been attempted before here at ATS and it isn't pretty.

Definitions of words are REALLY important in this verbal wrestling match, as it seems that somehow they get pretzeled into things they were never intended to be in an attempt to apply bad motives to one side or the other. Before "going there," can we define each term, agree on the definitions, and then, possibly, have a rational discussion?

For example, "democratic socialism" means something else than regular "socialism" as a bit of a hint, and "Nazi Socialist Party" means something very different than either regular socialism or democratic socialism. (Nazi's were trying to co-opt and redefine the word themselves...for example, they were way more into social darwinism than egalitarian sharing of economic benefits) It seems popular these days for Right leaning folks to want to make Left leaning folks into Nazis. I guess its tit for tat?

So, unless and until we agree on the meaning of words, their actual definitions and manifestations in history, its just going to be a "no YOUR team's bad!" bias-fest. I sincerely hope this is the approach everyone is considering???

peace,
AB
