Thanks, but I'm a socialist, not a liberal.

Called it!

Really want to know why they hate christmas and santa so much ? Only government is suppose to give out free stuff!

Ahh yes. The nefarious truth has been revealed!

Us socialists are secretly planning to ban Christmas and Santa because we feel they are encroaching on our turf, and only the government should give away free #.

You do know that Santa isn't real, right Neo? He doesn't give you anything. Let alone for free.

You shouldn't believe in anything other than the state. The state provides all. The state knows all.

Always trust the state and take what the state provides for you because the state knows what is best.

Santa and religion and beliefs in fairy tales are beliefs in something other than the state.

Remember that the next time you pull out of the driveway and take a Sunday drive on the roads your neighbors built for you.

Of course, that's what you believe because you probably don't know much about modern socialism. If I had to bet, everything you needed to know about socialism came from Glenn Beck's chalkboard.

I guess it would also be a shock to know I have a Christmas tree in my house.

That isn't 'socialism'.

That road got paid for by my income taxes via property tax.

Also got paid for by the gas tax.

Also got paid for by the lotteries.

Hate to break it to you, but that isn't 'socialism'.

My kids went to elementary public schools in the 1980s, celebrating every major American holiday. By 1990 in my town (which had as many churches as bars [a lot of each] and we didn't even know we had a single atheist till recent times), some churches told the schools that their children could not participate in such activities.

Then other churches told the schools that the schools were celebrating pagan holidays (or some other church's holyday which they didn't subscribe to) or celebrating Christian holidays but not in the correct way. Mind you, we're talking abut Christian churches, but even these Christian churches argued with one another over the validity of their being called "Christian".

So what's a school district to do when churches accuse them thusly? Why they quit celebrating holidays altogether. By 2000 new testing requirements made it simpler to adjust the school calendar, so Christmas breaks and Easter breaks became Winter and Spring breaks, just like a collegiate calendar, the focus now on just teaching "the basics" and getting every kid ready for college.

So now when I drive by elementary schools, I see windows decorated with student-made snowflakes or other seasonal objects, innocuous enough to not offend any of the town's church pastors and their flocks..... actually, even the objects of nature at one time offended some Christians, as the schools' attempt to worship nature before God... and the atheist in town quietly moved away a while back.... probably satisfied that the churches had done his work for him, more likely wishing his grandchildren could at least be able to draw a Christmas star as he had done in school, without it being connected to a math lesson ...

Taking the collective wealth of the people through taxes to pay for projects that benefit the whole of society is the definition of socialism.

Thanks for contributing, you socialist!

Santa Claus isn't part of religion.

This article here addresses some of the concerns, well except for the lie in the second paragraph:

The school had also come under fire for ending a school-wide recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. On Monday, authorities said that after hearing concerns from the school community, it will be recited over the public address system every morning.

“We work to foster inclusive communities in our schools that welcome students and families, and celebrate the diverse values and traditions of all New Yorkers," DOE spokeswoman Devora Kaye said in a statement. "This principal continues to work closely with her school community to ensure PS 169 is an inclusive school, meet students’ and families’ needs, and celebrate the values that make her community and New York City great.” www.nbcnewyork.com...

Suggesting omission of traditions is not celebrating the diverse value and traditions. Why the name change in "Thanksgiving" to "Harvest Festival" I don't get at all. I can be thankful for many things without it having anything to do with ANY religion.

I don't get it. Who cares? Celebrate whatever you want at home with your family and friends. Why do we need to have this stuff in our schools anyway? I'm still going to say Merry Christmas to people, but that's just a saying...it's said and is gone.

Having all these decorations up and "events" is a waste IMO. If public schools are as horrible as everyone seems to claim, how about we focus on getting them up to shape instead of what parties they're going to have?

Same reason we need foot baths in our schools.

Can't cherry pick now can we?

Oh yeah. Santa is totally awesome. "The Night Before Christmas" is still one of my favorite tales. I actually memorized it when I was ten or so.

Yay Santa!

Now can you address the fact you posted a disingenuous story taken completely out of context that only adds to the ignorance of those unable to actually fact-check?

So eventually Santa will be removed from all schools.

And all books about Santa will be next.

So I guess corporate retailers are going to get hurt financially during the Christmas Holidays when children don't believe in Santa given parents no reason to go Christmas shopping.

I guess Santa is offensive to Muslims.
