GE is the recipient of a windfall, courtesy of the Indian government, and changed US policies towards the nation. During a visit by the Indian Defense Minister the SECDEF announced that the US government is willing to allow development of an enhanced F414 engine, that would increase the power produced by current F414 engines, to be used in the Indian fifth generation fighter.

GE currently supplies the F404 engine for the indigenous Tejas Mk I, and the F414 for the Mk II. The 414 currently produces 13,000 lbf dry thrust, and 22,000 lbf in afterburner. The improved engine will produce 26,400 lbf in afterburner.

This essentially locks the India market for GE, who will produce as many as 2100 engines of the three types for India.

That should sound like good news to many Aerospace Machinists out there. Thanks.
