The 931st Air Refueling Group, based at McConnell AFB, Kansas is to be redesignated the 931st Air Refueling Wing. This will stand up the 931st Operations Group, the 931st Maintenance Group, and the 931st Force Support Squadron, and stand up the 905th and 924th Refueling Squadrons.

McConnell is to be the first Reserve unit to operate and maintain the KC-46 tanker. The aircraft is in testing now and is scheduled to start delivering in late 2017, into 2018. No announcement was made when they would receive their aircraft.

It's the first move in preparing for the new tanker to become operational. They've been trying to replace the KC-135, which is 60 years old, since 2002. The fact that they're standing up a wing, designed to operate the new tanker is a big step.
