Surely that would be a superhuman task considering the history of the region, no American president has ever improved the situation in the ME.

Yah as long as you're not one of the 92 million or so unemployed or underemployed or those being displaced in the job market by illegals or refugees or being forced to buy ins product or be fined or if you don't care that qe 1 & 2 didn't cause your grocery bill and just about every other product to go up or as long as you don't care that you
Have to be subjected to groping every time you get on sn airplane or have your kids being indoctrinated in the schools by the insanity that is common core but with all due respect it's all part of the Totalitarian one world gov and he's just a tool as it were.

Erm, I'm one of those - BECAUSE OF CUTBACKS in social services, education, etc - and OUTSOURCING by "corporations" (which are NOT 'people'!)
Those are NOT the result of "progressive policies." They are the result of the conservative 'austerity' crap, the tax code that favors the rich, and lobbies/SuperPACS/special interest groups which have bought the government.

Bring the money and jobs back - no more hoarding of cash in distant places to avoid taxes. Problem solved. TAKE CARE of our own problems - infrastructure, homelessness, hunger, poverty, despair, education.....before we worry about other countries. Give people education. As in, GIVE them education.

Right - the ACA benefits insurance companies. We agree on that one.

And yet, you seem to think the word "socialist" is some kind of poison....
oh wait. That's because you refuse to understand it.....

Yeah, you're all hung up on Agenda 21, and can't see the forest for the trees..... Fine. You convinced me. Let everyone else languish, starve and die, because they have no homes...no food....no health care...no education....have been displaced by the stupid US foreign policies of destruction and bribing of other nations. After all, it's their fault, right?

I mean, who gives a rip that women and children are living in refugee camps? That they never, ever feel safe? Who Cares?

And let's make sure we support Israel, and send billions to them (after all, school-yard bullies won't just stop taking your lunch money)........and meanwhile....

ignore our veterans, ignore mental health issues, ignore the poverty-stricken and indigent ----- right? Instead, we should just give you some guns and ammo.....

plus, insist that abortion be illegal and health care only available to the people who are well off!; insist that everyone has to be Christian and self-sufficient! -- don't fund the programs that support unwanted/neglected/abused kids. Because - they're not your prob - you've got your stuff and money. Heaven forbid you share or care.

Nice. Good plan - You'll get to keep your money. Screw them all.

/sarc

Libya had a welfare system 40 years ago based upon oil production long before Quadafi was killed. Every man got the equivalent of 20,000 a year free. No one was inspired to work, basic infrastructure maintenance failed; water, electricity (no reason to work as were on a social welfare system) and now are overrun by ISIS. Socialism/communism has never worked as a viable Utopian vision because the true visionaries are not allowed to exist within a state run/funded actuary class of government clerks.

Seriously, life was so much better for them before oil and social programs?:

"Until the late 1950s, Libya was one of the poorest countries in the world. In 1950, per capita annual income was about $40, while Libya's most valuable source of foreign earnings was the revenue received for leasing bases to the United Kingdom and United States (the bases were vacated in 1970). But with the discovery of the Zaltan oil field in 1959, the economic horizons of the country were dramatically enlarged."

My point is it did not work (one would think it would) as a sustainable solution to poverty within that nation.

I think perhaps you are behind the times - look at the Scandinavian Democratic Socialist nations. Look at Canada!!!
Australia. etc.

None of this is about Mao, or Polpot, or Stalin......
Why do you guys not get that?

That's like comparing the Model T to a Ford Fusion....

Our economy is a lot better now than at the end of the Bush administration, so that destroys your whole argument.

Provided the ACTUAL number of unemployed (ya know, those people no longer included in the unemployment stats because they quit looking for work?), the student debt bubble, the inflated stock market and the, what, 17 trillion dollar national debt (not to mention zero interest rates)....Id say the "economy" is a keystroke away from shambles!!!

Not to mention that Bush is the one that started the destabilization of the whole middle east and in fact the people in his administration are the ones that wrote the plan to destroy all those countries in the first place.

We are talking about Obamas effect on America due to his policies.

yeah and neither has any other leader or country since pretty much WW1. The place is a disaster and its farcical to even pretend the US has had anything other than its own interests at heart in any engagement in the middle east in history. George bush Jr and Senior made a great difference in the middle east with all their policies yeah? They set the stage for the current quagmire.

Yes!! look at Canada; a welfare state whose citizens spend 6 months there and 6 months in the US *WHY*. Australia only takes visa applications for those that can contribute to the nation; "doctors, civil engineers". Look at the population rates you are speaking of: Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Scandinavia, Spain, England, France; (manageable) ARE NOT nations with a population of 360 million people. One could compare an individual State within this union to Greece's entire population. This Union is far to large to manage is all; Federally, this is why the States have power; (we are not a nation/territory of 4 million souls anymore when the Constitution was originally written). Canada's oil, natural gas and mining companies are taxed appropriately; targeted specifically to pay for their social programs. I take it you traded your Model T Ford for a Fusion (anticipation now of any of the myriad of circuit boards; one that may spin the wheels to fail).

I have noticed that not one thing Obama has done in the way of Middle Eastern policy has actually improved or stabilized the Middle East in any way.

So what has any past POTUS done to improve middle east stability?

I am not an isolationist (Roosevelt style) but have no idea why the United States should involve themselves in territorial Islamic/Muslim Civil wars that are centuries old in the making and still acting out in 'modern society' (#e, Sunni, Kurds).
