Russia doesn't dare risk escalating the situation with Turkey. Iraq is on their own. Their only chance is to draw Iran in, and that may be what Turkey is trying to get them to do.

Turkey probably think they can hide behind NATO by being illigaly stationed in Iraq.

Turkish Daily News Original deeds of ownership for the northern Iraqi cities of Mosul and Kirkuk, copies of which were destroyed last year during post-war looting in Iraq, are kept in the Turkish Directorate for Deeds and Land Registry, officials said.
The deeds kept in the Land Registery include registries that go back as early as the 14th century and there are 350,000 volumes of such registries concerning some 17 countries that were part of the Ottoman Empire in the past, Zeki Adli, director-general Land Registry, commented on Friday in daily Radikal.
Land registry and deed offices in the oil-rich city of Kirkuk in northern Iraq were looted immediately after Iraqi army withdrew from the city during the U.S.-led war on Iraq.
The city is home to a sizable Turkmen community and there were fears in Turkey and among Iraqi Turkmens that the looting was aimed at destroying evidence for Turkmen presence in the city.
High-security measures are taken in the building where the deeds of ownership belonging to Kirkuk and Mosul are kept, Adli said.
Adli also said that his directorate was working on the Kirkuk and Mosul registries after the interim Iraqi administration requested cooperation as it tries to settle property ownership matters in Mosul and Kirkuk.

If you promote modern historical claims, imagine if I start claiming through history! You should start looking for another planet or solar system
PS: maybe another galactic cluster to be safe...

Were you sitting in on that conference call? No? It is in Turkey's best interests to take on Russia without NATO; that would make Turkey the most important regional power when it defeats Russia in its attempts to exert dominance in the region.
How would Turkey pull that off?? Russia could stomp them like a bug! They have 2000 SU-27s for god sakes, Turkey has 200 F-16s and 50 F4s.

All of Russia's aircraft are needed to defend Russia from the evil forces of NATO massed all along its border. If it withdraws any to fight Turkey, NATO tanks will come flooding through the gaps. At least, that is Russian war fighting dogma.
Russia dont need to invade Turkey to put hem out of the game. Russia dont even have to use a single jet fighter to do it. Or nucklear weapons.
Turkey on the other hand would have to use their airforce to ingage Russia. And once those jets take of they will have no airfields to land on again.

How? Putin's godlike superpowers?
You don't seem to understand the strategic situation. All Turkey has to do to win is not do what Putin wants. So long as Turkey defies Putin, they win and Putin loses.
