LOL! Well everyone needs the space to rant, and I support it! But to be honest, I can't help laughing at this!

-Why such commercialization?
-Because people continue to buy Star Wars stuff. People like you.

Then of course there is always a way to make it known you are a superior within that group, by complaining about the misguided "amateurs"... I see this all the time - in my hobby of horsemanship, there's a level of skill at which one complains angerly about "greenies".
My husband went through it in his hobby of collecting Checker Cabs- him and his buddy could rant on and on about some dumba$$ who put a bumper on their Checker that was not of the correct year for the car (not that I could see a difference- but that IS the point, isn't it?
)

Then it was the jet fighter, and the stupid amateurs who paid the wrong price for their ejection seat, or put a sticker in the cockpit that wasn't normally used until after the time that aircraft was in service....

But something else I notice......

There is another level of skill or knowledge in which a person rises above this petty contempt.
Kinda like when you graduate high school, and no longer feel the need to torture and mock freshmen?
When you become understanding of beginners, remember when you were one, and feel a sort of affectionate humor and openness to helping them out if they want it (or not if they don't).

I think it has to do with self confidence, and losing the need to prove to yourself or anyone else that you know your stuff in this area. My husband went into this phase after publishing books on his particular hobby- which are so jam packed with details on the subject no one but a totally dedicated nerd- fan would even bother looking at it.

I came up with a tentative theory - as we collect information and knowledge, we gain the drive to express it outward.
Like our process of digestion of matter!
Pointing out the failings, ignorance and mistakes of others gives us an excuse for doing so - whether they welcome our giving or not.
When you start to have people actually asking you to share your knowledge with them, the urge to create a justification for forcing it out there goes away. If you can emanate in a subtle way that you are not only knowledgeable, but kind, compassionate, understanding, and rational, you have a good chance of attracting such requests.
You can become known in these circles as someone knowledgeable, who will answer questions or give guidance kindly if contacted.

I noticed that in my particular hobbies, I may be aware of people who have tons more experience and knowledge than I, but will only go to those who give the impression that they are not driven by their own need to prove they are (no matter how hard they try to force it on me).

Now I am laughing at my response here - I am sure you don't give a rats arse about any of this! I just woke up, I am very sick this morning, and maybe a bit delirious....I guess I just got stimulated to ramble off into a disconnected thought.
Sorry about that!

If you want to see how bad it really has got read my book review on starwars aftermath

The book is a atrocity and shows how Mikey mouse will release droll just to cash in.

If you are a fan of the old EU books like me prepare to be reduced to tears.

Zahn and Stackpole # better star wars novels than "this" abortion of a "book".
Honnestly reading each sentence was like being raped in the eyes by Jar Jar binks.

What about the fact they still have X-Wings vs Tie Fighters way after both ships were obsolete not long after the Battle of Endor. Shouldn't they be sporting A-Wings and Tie Interceptors by now? Hopefully that will be explained in the movie, just about 2 weeks away now.

Well why does the USA still have F-15 and F-16's 40 years later should they not all be F-22's

Looking at your avatar, we had a blackbird. Now thirty plus years later we don't. We had a space shuttle, thirty years later, we have capsule tipped rockets again (well, soon anyway).

A-Wing fighters look like old jedi starfighters like Obi-Wan and Anakin rocked.
The X-Wing in Force Awakens has a few differences.

Oh my...is my inner geek showing?

Apples and Oranges, in some of the Star Wars literature I had as a kid it mentioned both the X-wing and traditional Tie Fighter being at the brink of basically what the F-4 would have been in 1990. The Tie Interceptor was becoming the main star fighter backed up by the new Tie Avenger which had a hyper drive and shield generator which the Tie Fighter and Interceptor had neither and had to rely on capital ships or bases. The A-Wing was the fastest of all star fighters and was going to be the Rebellions main fighter until they became the New Republic in which the E-wing was to take over.

Let it show its ok, its Star Wars, not Star Trek. and about the SR-71... go read another forum thats all I`ll say here.

I dont want to know what those differences are until I see the movie, really hoping its Rogue Squadron though. Then it would make sense.

I loved the Tie Avenger and Tie Defender. Will always prefer the Assault gun boat though.

Still I think the principle on cost stands.

The empire (least in the old EU before the house of micky shat on it) had 25,000 imperator class star destroyers and millions of support craft.
A star destroyer carriers 6 squadrons and a star wars squadron is 12, thats 300,000 new TIES alone for the Imperator star destroyers without the millions needed for star bases, planetary garrisons and support craft like Escort Carriers. And lets not go into replacements and spare parts.

The basic TIE was still more than a match anyway for any pirate group. It was only aganist the Rebels/New Republic newest craft it was really outclassed.

I know right?

Why did they hire that talentless hack when they could of got some of the tried and true old school EU writers ?

With lines like this:

The TIE wibbles and wobbles through the air, careening drunkenly across the Myrrann rooftops - it zigzags herkily-jerkily out of sight

The publisher alone should of burned the book and Disney put a 200 mile restraining order on Wendig from anything starwars.

Why Disney threw out the knights of the old republic I have no idea.

I know there was alot of crap in the old EU. But it would not have taken long for Disnery to pick out the gems and keep them.

Knights of the old republic, Dark forces, X wings games and books/comics and Thrawn trilogy should have been kept. And would not have impacted JJ writing either as there would still have been a 15 year gap between them and the films.

Disney wants to make an expanding universe with Star Wars similar to what Marvel is doing with the Avengers. So they canned all of the EU just in case they decide to do a spin off on the father of some obscure character or something. It's going to get ridiculous. Trust me.

Full Star Wars Movie Release Calendar

Starting with the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we're going to get a Star Wars movie a year until at least 2019. We not only will get Star Wars: Episode VIII and Star Wars: Episode IX, but so far, there are several spinoff/standalone movies on the schedule, including Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and a Han Solo origin movie.

And that is probably only the beginning.

I'm glad since Disney took over Star Wars and Marvel I wait and read reviews from people I know before I waste what little money I have on shiite dropped for a quick buck. I had no interest in aftermath after the reviews were out and even cancelled my library hold on it so some poor kid could get his first taste of Disney brand disappointment.

Anywhose, I was replying to your scrapping of KOTOR. Right now, I'm considering buying it for $10 US for my PHONE. One of the best written games I've ever played. It was more Star Wars than that dump of the prequels we were given.
Yeah...going to the google store to download it now...

Micky mouse can go jump into a sarlaac pit

To rip up then piss on many of the good books and games some of us were brought up on is bad business and form in my opinion.

They could of used some of the better EU books and storys themselves and made a fortune off them.

I think they would have been better to through out everything EU from after the battle of Yavin, keep all the old stuff. They had to get rid of some of it because it would have been very limiting for their new movies so i can kind of get why they got rid of some of it.

If you really think about it a lot of stuff is still cannon from the old EU like Darth Bane and Darth Plaguis because they are already mentioned in what is now the "new cannon". I still enjoy the old stuff regardless of what Disney have to say about it.

Yea it's kind of mind boggling, because Marvel didn't throw out all the comic books about the Avengers to make the movies and all the spin offs for them. They used them as source material. Sure they changed some things, but you can't write the same story on paper into a movie format, some changes have to be made. It clearly worked too, because the Avengers movies are changing the way that movie makers are trying to make movies. Disney isn't the only company attempting to mimic the Avengers formula either.

Exactly. They could have kept them for source material picking out the best bits and discarding the worst case by case.

Poe Dameron, the guy with the cool black x-wing from the new movie already has a connection to Luke Skywalker through his parentage who helped Luke get some kind of Jedi tree or something. Luke gave half of the cutting for them and kept half to plant somewhere else. Comics.

The comics have been good. But I'm a little dissapointed that Vader bumped into Luke before the Events of Empire Strikes Back, couldn't tell that it was his son, and couldn't tell that he was the guy that blew up the death star. But man, if you haven't seen it, you need to google it somehow and just see the image of when Vader first learns Luke is his son in the comics. THAT is Star Wars.

You know, it still remains to be seen if they will or won't do that. Maybe they just said they are scrapping the EU but are still willing to take parts from it they like? Just saying, we don't know much yet.
