We see cases like this all the time, and every time they are discussed, there are people defending it, claiming it isn't really racism, because it doesn't fit some outdated set of criteria. Frankly, anyone doing that is only adding to the problem. There is no law in this day and age, in the United States, that allows any black person to be told they can't sit in whatever seat they want on a bus, or eat in whatever restaurant they want, or attend the same schools as people of other colors, or that allows them to be denied a job based on their skin color, or anything else of that sort. So, for those tossing that out, . That hasn't been the reality for decades, and people are sick of hearing about it. Nothing that happened back then is an excuse for racism against whites today. Nothing.

Now that that's out of the way, do you folks have any other reason to excuse this behavior? Any other reason to blame the victims, or demand they feel guilt for something they never did, or claim they are racist and deserve it because they are white? Anything?

Mmm...that feeling of consternation folk are experiencing understanding the dynamics of this most transparent of effects is troubling...as if any of this has happened in a vaccuum, just popped up, out of the blue...

No, you weren't personally responsible...but crying about being called a cracker (because there is no white analog to being called an ape or a savage - luckily! because the backlash would be worse)...but we are personally responsible for not taking ownership of the atrociously inhumane behaviour of our forebears...in the country I am in - the indigenous family lines stop 2-3 generations back: children having been wrenched from their mothers - but y'all want to cry about being called names - you've got a way to go before claiming the level of vilification that created the situations you're crying about - that anger would be better directed and dissipated by considering the behaviour of different colored children playing together without the faux superiority complexes - or, gauche inferiority complexes that keep the stupid wheel turning...its no sign of intelligence to not recognise why things are the way they are - even 'decades' later...the full horror was perpetrated over 200 years...y'all think it should correct itself after a couple of decades?...some of those 'children', now grown up are contemplating their heritage, but all they see, is a blank a couple of generations back...the same mentality would be telling traumatised individuals to 'just get over it'...but no - that mentality is crying "I got called a cracker"...get over it, princesses...

Every culture has committed extreme crimes against humanity,arguably every person has participated,if you went on a misanthropic rant rather than a we should feel bad for people rant, I might be more inclined to offer less resistance.

Everyone has suffered and still suffers to varying degrees, and in different situations, if we want to change anything we need to take personal responsibility and be different in the micro culture we are in that's all we can do ; be a light for the ones near us, and protect me and my own.

I have to agree with your more level-headed comments here...the accusatory ones, not so much...

In reality, everyone is a bigot...some are more bigotted than others...and when that bigotry becomes ingrained in power structures, the things you describe happen on this little blue marble...cut it out like you cut out a cancerous growth...it doesn't bode well for the host, to let it fester...build a bridge and get over it - why don't we all just build a bridge and get over ourselves?

No-one would be discussing any of this nonsense if there weren't the history involved...and now a new history is being created as a reaction to the older history...and so on, and so forth...

Even worse I'm called white yet am I am mixed as most people are, I own no ones problems I own my problems. I should have no white guilt and I've never had white privilege. Being white or seen as white has afforded me little and more so it's a farce. Institutionalized racism isn't a reality, I'm sorry but as long as we continue to blame others for our problems we will continue to have a devided society.

I very honestly and genuinely share your sentiments.

While I have no desire to harm anyone, and wouldn't, even if I had the power to, I nonetheless feel that the human race is not worth saving. This planet needs to explode.

Things aren't going to get better.

When you get down to the dirt most of us have ancestors that endured horrible suffering and slavery, I recently found out that one of my grandfathers was a slave that ran away. I have very oriental looking eyes, have been mistaken for being Hispanic and Arab and the people of my ancestors were sterilized and treated very much like Native Americans were yet you'll never hear me pull any of those cards.

If I was treated differently I'd chalk it up to my perpetually angry eyebrows and not because some scared old white lady thought I was a cholo.. which actually happened, except it was two black guys that thought I was Hispanic.. they were instantly like; "yo, you heard that latest Mister Shadow ese?".. ok that didn't really happen, but they did think I was a cholo.. probably shouldn't wear flannel shirts and khakis when I pack my chrome..

On a slightly different note, it's funny that I never hear of any compassion for the mentally ill that have been forcibly drugged up with poisonous and even lethal drugs, electrocuted, lobotomised, ostracised, terrorized and imprisoned by the very successors of the Nazis.. oh, right.. there's the Scientologists, they hate psychiatry but they lack credibility to put it mildly. I never hear a peep... I've known people like that, their lives are among some of the most tragic I've heard about..

My family were white Irish slaves for over 70 years from 1640-1713 in Virginia.
They never owned slaves. They were NOT indentured servants. They did not trade passage to the United States for a period of indentured servitude. They were war booty from the war with Oliver Cromwell. White people were enslaved for 1000's of years through the North African Barbary Coast slave trades.

White Europeans ended slavery. Slavery is and was vile.

Slavery still exists today in the majority of Africa.

People segregate as a component of culture. That's why you get China Town, because Chinese people like living near Chinese people. In Afrikaans the world for "apart" is Apartheid. Apartheid started because of huge crime waves and riots by blacks after the Second World War. Reaching it's zenith in the death of a Catholic nun being cannibalized in East London, South Africa in 1952.

Where is the US headed ? Who knows but if we are headed the way of Rhodesia/Zimbabwe or South Africa, God help us all.

Thank Mate. Think I have it figured out the youtube embedding now. I just moved back after living 12 years in South America and Asia. Things have definitely changed in the last 12 years and I am getting it all in one dose. I feel that Americans are like the frog in the pot. Changes have happened so slowly that they barely perceive it. You know I loved Asian culture and food and history and I would hope it never goes away. I feel the same about Latin cultures.

I can only hope that White/ Europeans can finally just stop the self hatred and raise up their heads and think, "Yeah we aren't so bad and our culture is important too". We all deserve to be proud of the accomplishments of our people and the uniqueness we bring to the human experience.
