There's nothing wrong with secrecy either. Secrecy doesn't make one a liar; that's just absurd and ignorant. It's hubris really.

Really? A portal to visit the dead.
I'm joining the Masons so I can go see my grand parents.....

Be warned, it smells like mothballs and menthol there.

So...you're saying JFK wasn't talking about secrecy?

I wonder why he used the word repeatedly and asked the press to report instead of keeping secrets.

*eyeroll*

I see you checked out that link thoroughly.

He was asking the press for more secrecy on national security matters. The speech "The President and the Press" was given a few days after the failed Bay of Pigs invasion on Cuba. In the thread I linked, an esteemed member of this site offers his perspective on it, as well as the ENTIRE speech, not the chopped up, edited version you did.

Again, deny ignorance.

I see you checked out that link thoroughly.

He was asking the press for more secrecy on national security matters.

I scanned it, then scoffed. From the speech:

This means greater coverage and analysis of international news--for it is no longer far away and foreign but close at hand and local. It means greater attention to improved understanding of the news as well as improved transmission. And it means, finally, that government at all levels, must meet its obligation to provide you with the fullest possible information outside the narrowest limits of national security--and we intend to do it.

Link to Transcript

He was suggesting the opposite -- HE WAS SUGGESTING GREATER TRANSPARENCY.

....hence the words, "government at all levels, must meet its obligation to provide you with the fullest possible information outside the narrowest limits of national security."

ETA: And, by the way, I don't need anyone's distortion...err....analysis on the speech. It's self-evident.

Yes JFK was talking about greater transparency but not total transparency

Secrecy is not always a bad thing it can be necessary for reasons of security both nationally and also personally.

I never suggested he said total transparency -- he was suggesting the maximum amount of transparency outside the narrowest limits of national security.

ETA: I find it bizarre anyone could read that speech and walk away thinking he was asking for greater secrecy. It's the total opposite message of the speech.

Peeps be cray.

the invasion was a failure due to the leaks from the press. This is historical fact, and not up for YOUR interpretation. Listen to or read the ENTIRE speech if you would like to learn rather than ASSume.

Posting snipits and out of context quotes is disingenuous.

I sure hope not. Kennedy was a member of the Knight of Columbus. A Catholic Secret Society.

But then history is debatable right?

I never suggested he was asking for greater secrecy ... there is a balance between information given to the public and that which is withheld ... the scales are what is for the common good or should be.

Chances are with your assumptions, you would find it quite boring.

Hehehe, nicely put. I was going to say something along those lines myself, without trying to sound ungrateful to my lodge.

Yes, at times, we repeat the same thing over and over in LOI and especially if one is tired from a long working day, it can be tedious.

For me, it's the comradery. Of course, charity goes without saying, but knowing I'm meeting up with mates who, I *know* are genuine, good people, can really enliven a day.

But yeh. Tonight is another 1st LOI and I'm sick as the proverbial and sitting in as JD.... sigh. Could really do without it this eve.
