That's right kids, memes ruin lives.

Thanks to lazy iterative journalism a woman's modeling career was devastated. Do you remember this story?

A Chinese man has divorced and sued his wife for £55,000 after discovering she’d had plastic surgery before they met. Jian Feng, 38, was said to have been “horrified” when she gave birth to an ugly baby daughter. He suspected her of having an affair. His wife then confessed to having plastic surgery costing £70,000 in South Korea before they met and showed him a picture of how she used to look. He filed for divorce two years after marrying her following a whirlwind romance. The Heilongjiang Morning Post said Jian successfully sued for deceit. sauce

That story spread like wildfire through the internet. Too bad it's BS.

Memes can be fun, fantastical, and entertaining,...

... till its a picture of you or someone you love.

Yup.
Unfortunately like 90% of all memes are created in the terrible land known as 4chan especially the /b/ board where people just spew thousands of images like a volcano on there and people save every image and make something out of it, or re-circulate it.

I sometimes stumble on there a few times, usually after a night of drinking with some friends, and the amount of pictures of people from their facebook pages, blogs, etc is unreal. And some of the people on that site can dig deep and find out everything about you from a single image, it's quite shocking.
So beware of what you post online, or what you send to people via even just a text. This is why the selfie generation will most likely be the most depressed and in for a shock when that selfie they took of them making a 'funny' face turns into 4chans next joke.

Edit: I guess I should warn people, if you venture to 4chan, it's extremely NSFW, especially /b/ (random) and not for everyone. It's a twisted place.
