Merkel: We must hit climate target to avoid refugee waves

BERLIN (AP) — German Chancellor Angela Merkel says the world must do everything it can to meet an international goal to fight global warming, arguing that failing to do so could set off large new waves of refugees.
The U.N. and experts say governments' emissions-cutting pledges ahead of a global conference in Paris beginning this month aren't yet enough to hit the target of keeping the rise in global temperatures below 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) by the end of this century compared with pre-industrial times.
Merkel said in a speech Tuesday "if we don't manage this, that could be a reason for many, many refugee movements" around the world.
Scientists say a temperature rise over 2 degrees Celsius could have profound, irreversible effects on the climate.

So since the public isn't as frightened as they were supposed to be about "global warming", a new aspect has been added. Refugees. Since this is big news as people try to escape war in their homelands and move to other parts of the world, causing some issues, we have the old "never let a crisis go to waste" addage.

Be afraid, be very afraid.

If this wasn't so comical and predictable, and the facts were just left as facts, everyone would eventually have to come to grips with what they mean. Yes, the world did warm up and may continue to do so. All that's left at this point is to assign blame find a solution. If we are lucky, and we really did cause all this, then we have the power to reverse it. If it's a natural cycle, we are going to have to adapt to the changes and deal with things as they happen. But always remember, fear is the driving force behind this. If you aren't afraid, it's not working.

I'm not afraid. I live in the country and I hear those big bad refugees are scared of the woods.

Global scamming and refugees are nothing to worry about, unless you're a city dweller...

so just because so many governments are dinosaurs, they thinks that refugees are hatching out now due to global warming!

Merkel: We must hit climate target to avoid the hole in the Ozone which will result in more refugee cows giving off methane; we must depopulate the earth of humans, more room for the 4th Reich

Don't forget the pumpkins

Pumpkins is very apt for this new era of government fairy tales.
Thing is, if government says the right words to the pumpkins...they turn into Golden Coaches......for governments

Merkel, the drama queen.

She invests heavily in the industrial complex for growth of her country and now screams "the sky is falling".

Did she say how she plans on participating in the stoppage of impending climate change doom?

Do you somehow contest the fact that if climate change is true causing the ice caps to melt, which in turn makes the oceans to rise, that it somehow WOULDN'T displace millions upon millions of people living near the coasts?

It doesn't sound like she is attributing the cause of near-future Islamic refugees to climate change, instead she is predicting that there will be further refugees in the future that would seek asylum to places that are unaffected by climate changes wrath.. Just my take on it though.

Displacement of cities population yes, but not refuges in foreign countries,
would it add climate refuges in Germany or Eu as Merkel is crying of?

No, common sense dictates that if people have their houses overtaken by the ocean, they will indeed have to move. So there is that. But at this point, it sure does look like the fear of manbearpig Global Warming wasn't enough by itself, the need to introduce the chaos of the current crisis into the fear of the older, but still ongoing fear of AGW.

I really do get that you are a champion to the cause, but in this one instance, isn't it remotely possible that a politician said something stupid?

Hard to say. We don't know how badly the populations of the coast would be displaced.

if you wanna take in the big picture, the current influx from syria has its roots in climate change. in the mid-2000's, a drought caused an inundation of millions of displaced, unemployed syrians into urban centers that couldn't accommodate them. a long, messy chain of events took place as a direct consequence of that, leading up to the current crisis.

arid regions will continue to be the hardest hit, so expect more of the same with blood profits to be made off the fall-out.
