I don't think China plans to dominate the world militarily, however, economically that might be in their plans. Also, I don't believe China has any interest in military conquest beyond Asia. I think they want territory in their own back yard, but I don't believe war with the U.S. is in their plans.

War isn't in their plans I think because they know damn well they would lose any war with the West. However, their continual encroachment and disdain of international standards are bound to push them into a serious confrontation with the West sooner, rather than later. They fear war, as war is probably the only thing that will stop them - and they know it. I do not approve of war myself, however the last country to ignore all norms of international diplomacy and law in such a way were the Nazis, and we all know how that ended...

Perhaps a wise policy for someone to pursue would be regime change in China. Remove the CCP and you remove the impetous for China's aggression. Arming the Uigaars would be a start?

Everyone stop buying all the cheaply made crap from China and they'll go broke.

Believe it or not, it's you and me Joe and Judy average who are unwittingly financing China's ambitious conquest.

Well said. And VERY true.
I stopped buying Chinese products years ago. There are some very good web sites that cater to non-Chinese products out there. Every penny you spend on a Chinese product is invested into the Chinese war machine or helps cement China's ability to dominate and bully others.

Given the number of people here that encourage socialism and communism, China might be welcomed in the US.

Socialism is a very different thing than a Communist Dictatorship. I somehow doubt that Americans (or anyone else for that matter) would welcome the brutal repression that China excells at. lol!

If china kept the cable on, beer in the fridge and pizza in the stores, most would care less.

Can't face your enemies in direct conflict?

Conquer from within...

There is a Chinese curse: "may you live in interesting times..." I think the Chinese are going to make the West endure some interesting times.

Actually, that's not a Chinese curse, it was just assigned to them because it sounds like oriental wisdom. No one knows who coined it but it seems to have originated in Europe in the mid 1930's. It's also just part 1 of 3.
May you live in interesting times
May you come to the attention of those in authority
May you find what you are looking for

Anyways, China has no interest in war they would rather be wealthy and modern wars are too damaging and too expensive. Defensive technology is also too powerful and few nations can efficiently project force. Real force projection these days is economic in nation.

Art Bell lied then!!!!

I am so disheartened...

Yeah right. Five minutes after China keeps their nose out of our business, and our military secrets and our computer systems.

Not to mention their neighbors....U.S. allies.

This world economy, including China's, would never have been born without the massive stability the U.S. and it's ability to project power enabled.

Now China is feeling their oats, that stability is constraining to them? Oh well....

you want to arm yet another islamic group... Wow what wisdom you have. You want all Uigurs to get massacred? Because thats how you get every single Uigur massacred. China does not play around with such things like rebellion, especially not muslim rebellions.

Don't really see whats the deal with the China phobia nowadays. Its thousands of kilometeres away from the nearest western nations, its economy is not booming as it used to do, and China is way less aggressive than the U.S. hands down. Let china be china, they are amongst the oldest civilisations on the planet and mostly stayed put in their ''middle-kingdom'' for thousands of years.

Our founding fathers warned us explicitly to stay the hell out of the affairs of other nations... it is time to reap what we have sown, it seems...

Yeah that ended up with two World Wars. The world is much much smaller than it was at the time of the founders who did not even want a standing Army.

As for the OP, China does not even have plan to dominate its region. It is just trying to get by and do business. It should be noted the only real problems between the US and China are the problems between China and US allies in the region. China needs to make as much money as it can because once it hits that wall the the US, Japan and every other nation that transitions into a modern economy the transition is very painful. However, it simply can not be stopped as an economy based on low wages workers can not maintain low wages forever. China is Japan in 1980s.

You go right ahead and try blaming China but just remember the old saying,"You Reap What You Sew". Just keep in mind that this would not even be a current issue if our illustrious president, Bill Clinton, by far the absolutely worst president up to and including his time in the white house, granted China the distinction of most favored trading nation during his tenure. I must say that he has to be the most corrupt and evil president we have ever had and now his lying wife will probably become the 2nd worst president we will have ever had.

Most Favored Nation Trade Status for China

The Senate began consideration of S. 1367, the granting of most-favored-nation trading status to China. In 1979, China was first… read more

Now you want to blame China. I say Horse Sheet. The western economies have done their best to exploit China economically since the 18th century. Read up on the British East India Trading Co. instigated Opi-um wars that nearly destroyed China as a unified nation. Is there any wonder China would be just a little bit leery of western involvement in their internal affairs. After all, the United States has only taken out countless other nations from Chili and countless other central and south American nations to Iraq, Libya, Egypt and the latest being Ukraine. The US has used NGO's to instigate government usurpation all around the globe all the while supporting cruel humanely criminal monarchies and dictatorships primarily in the middle east because they cow-toe to a hegemonic government with military presence in 150 nations around the globe.
