Dunno, maybe cause its a blurry picture of a cuttlefish?

OP didn't take the picture.

They posted it to see if ATS could explain it.

Some people... always quick to jump down peoples throats.

Thanks for posting OP.

Why is it every time something really cool is seen in or near the ocean, someone claims it "could be a beaked whale"?!?!? That's no whale, any more than the Moore's Beach monster was a whale! What is is, I don't know, but it's pretty cool-looking. I can't locate anything like this, searching for rare sea creatures or even rare pinnipeds.

I asked my 4 year son who has ASD and he said it is a whale

I like Charizard's answer better i think, I did ask my son what was in the pic Charizard posted and he said 'a can' then i asked again what was in Op's picture and he said whale again

I'm not one for throat jumping but in the OP's linked picture the eyes and Other parts of anatomy exactly match up to a cuttlefish.
Even the fins on the outer edge of the body

If what we're seeing is it's head, is a total unknown. The skin appears to be hippo like but this is a head scratcher. The oceans/seas are so vast, who knows what is yet to be discovered.

I totally agree with Smurfy it is a Cuvier's Beaked Whale.

I feel like this or something very similar may very well be our culprit:

Though if it is a buoy of similar design, I can't really explain why it would be half sunk. Maybe it's weighted, like someone was using it for fishing or something.

This ^^ . Great find. It's partially waterlogged and may not be the exact brand but matches the "creature" in all major details.

I really think it looks like a Hippo and the size is just distorted because it is breaking the water surface. It also looks like it is partially behind a rock or something.

Hippo and Crocodile had fun times maybe? they share same waters usually.

unsure if the mechanics of baby making is possible between them

or Albino Hippo

either way it resembles the hippo family

I also believe charizard has it right with the picture of a buoy. It's not a half emerged "hippo-cuddle fish" . I think is a reflection of a partially sun lit, partially shaded buoy. The illuminated section you can see the reflection of the boat rails. That reflection is just as wavy as the "submerged" half.

The bouy is the best guess so far but right below the "eye" there are wrinkles like skin around a neck.

Also the bill or mouth looks like an old shoe.

I think we got it all wrong because of the black spot guessing it is the eye. IMO it is a Mediterranean Moray Eel, Muraena Helena on it's way down towards the bottom.

This is a pretty odd one. The top part of..whatever it is, the part that's above the water, does look very, VERY similar to the buoy picture I posted. It definitely looks plastic to me. But the part below the water looks completely different. That definitely looks like a hole for a rope to loop through on the tip of what people think is a 'snout".

This thing has been identified...

Image

It turns out that it was a half-sunken low freeboard fender, used to protect boats from damage.
