I was under the impression they had serious problems with hi temp alloys though.

Their reliability still sucks when compared to ours, but it's a little better than the issues Russia has. They use the same engines, so they see a lot of the same problems, but they have a better MTBF rate.

This aircraft looks exactly like the Russians except for a few alterations, makes me wonder if it was just acquired by the Chinese rather than built. A Jet Fighter isn't just about looks either, they have to master everything inside the cockpit and out.

Most Chinese aircraft are either license built or direct copies of Russian aircraft with improvements using Chinese engines and equipment. It's caused both embarrassment for the Chinese, and anger for the Russians.

It probably is, but they are working on the J-17 and have been for several years now.

I think most of the failings are in the political field other than the manufacturers.
