Back on October 22nd, New Horizons fired it's engines in a 16 minute burn to start it on it's way with an encounter with Kuiper Belt object 2014 MU89.

The maneuver is the first of 4 burns that New Horizons will have to do in order to reach 2014 MU69 which lays about 1 billion miles away.

MU69 is quite different from Pluto, according to scientist as it's only 30 miles across and is most likely made up of pristine materials that were used to make up the planetary bodies within our own solar system.

Arrival date is set for January 2019, so we won't have to wait as long as we did for Pluto itself to see a new place.

However, the flyby is not firm on the books, as NASA still has to approve the extended mission of New Horizons by next year.
