I would say that in regimes that centrally plan everything like Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot instituted the state WAS the religion like it is in North Korea today.

*sigh* Do you honestly think the people in those countries believed that Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot were somehow going to save their souls from damnation?

*robs forhead* There is a difference between kneeling and worshiping a king, lord or leader and revering an omnipotent "God" that created everything.

Someone in North Korea doesn't think that Kim Jon Un created the universe. They don't believe he is immortal. They know he is a man, their leader and will eventually die one day.

So, Stalin created the universe, Stalin can save people's souls in the afterlife, Stalin can make miracles happen and walk on water...?

The worship you see in these countries is just an extreme form of fandom.

Name a few please who talk openly
about being Catholic or Baptist or Methodist.
And are open about their faith aside from
a perfunctory God Bless at the end of speeches.

Why? What would it prove if there are no Democratic congressmen or women who wear their religion like a billboard with blinking arrows and USE it to gain political points?? That they are all godless anti-theists?

Church going means nothing. Lots of people
go to church who are not christians, especially
politicians.

Your righteous judgment of other human beings knows no bounds.

any politician who claims to be a true christian would, at least in theory, be working to establish jesus' paradigm on earth in anticipation of his arrival. is that not what it means to be a soldier in gods army? particularly when (to my understanding, at least) his arrival heralds the end of anything (or anyone) that doesnt meet his approval. xenocide, in other words.

That is patently false.

You are falling for anti-theist propaganda.

Jesus said quite clearly, he did NOT come
to establish a theocracy nor
an earthly government.
Try reading the words of Jesus
(in red letters in some bibles)
before making a statement based
on anti-theist propaganda.

The end hasn't come in 2000 years,
Jesus told Christians not to worry
about it, that no one will know the
day, or time, to live life
every day in such a way that when
the end comes -

and it will come for all of us soon,
we will all die, that is a given
so regardless of when it really
happens, could be millions of years
could be tomorrow you get run over
by a car and it is the end of the world
for you -

we can be proud of our lives
and proud of the way we conducted
ourselves, and proud of our beliefs.

As for what happens to non-believers,
that is up to God. Again, read Jesus
words, he tell us, and that means
politicians not to judge, and not
to think we know what will happen
to people, that it is all up to God,
not us.

He was quite, quite clear that Christians
were NOT to establish any kind of
Theocracy on earth.

A "real" and "true" Christian would not
try to establish a theocracy,
that is simply anti-theist propaganda
to make you afraid of Christians
and hate them.

Specifically what mess did "they" create?

Have you not noticed that Congress has been completely dysfunctional for the last eight years?

What "havoc" have they specifically created?

Have you not noticed that Congress has been dysfunctional for the past eight years?

How have they "trampled" the constitution?

Planned Parenthood? Roe vs. Wade? That's another thread and I'm not going there so forget it. They wasted millions taking Obamacare on appeal over 60 times and even after the Supreme Court ruling, they kept on. They've wasted millions of tax dollars on the Benghazi investigation which is nothing more than a cheap shot at Clinton. They shut down the government so they could feel they have accomplished something, when all they do is hurt the country.

I could go on, but I've got to run out. I'll be back later though. Hope you enjoy your argument.

And you are saying that it is all
the fault of Christians that
congress has been dysfunctional?

You are saying it is all Christians fault
about Obamacare?

You are saying it is all Christians fault
that Planned Parenthood got themselves
in the mess they did?

Did Roe v Wade get overturned, NO,
will it be, NO.

And now Benghazi is the fault of
Christians?

Hmmm, interesting. Because that is what you are saying. You said you fear Christian politicians because they are the fault of all of these things? So in effect you are blaming Christianity for all of these things?

How do any of these things trample on the Constitution?
How do any of these things force people to become Christians?
That is what you said your fear was about Christians who are politicians.

Your argument actually makes the case that to be a Democratic
politician one can not be a Christian.

Here's your 'challenge' answered:
Religious affiliation in the U S Senate

The most basic breakdown of the above data indicates that 85% of the Senate is Christian (compared with 78%[178] of the population) and 9% of the Senate is Jewish (compared with 1.7% of the population).

The following list compares reported religious affiliations of U. S. Senators to religious statistics of the demographics of the United States of America:

Catholics are represented by 28% of the Senate for 25.9% of the population. (1.08×)
Baptists are represented by 10% of the Senate for 17.2% of the population. (0.58×)
Unaffiliated persons are represented by 3% of the Senate for 16.1% of the population. (0.19×)
Methodists are represented by 8% of the Senate for 7.2% of the population. (1.11×)
Lutherans are represented by 5% of the Senate for 4.6% of the population. (1.09×)
Presbyterians are represented by 13% of the Senate for 2.8% of the population. (4.64×)
Episcopalians are represented by 4% of the Senate for 1.8% of the population. (2.22×)
Jews are represented by 9% of the Senate for 1.7% of the population. (5.88×)
Latter-Day Saints are represented by 7% of the Senate for 1.4% of the population. (5.00×)

Go to the link for the specific PEOPLE. And that's just the SENATE!

Here's another one: Survey: Nearly 92% of Congress is Christian

Though Christians dominate both parties, Democrats are more religiously diverse than Republicans. Of the 301 Republicans in the 114th Congress, Jewish freshman Rep. Lee Zeldin of New York is the only non-Christian.

A large majority of Democrats in Congress (80%) are Christian, with 44% Protestant, 35% Catholic and 1% Mormon. But unlike Republicans, Democrats in Congress are 12% Jewish and have two Buddhist, two Muslims, one Hindu and one unaffiliated member.

Your turn, grams. Like a debate. Care to respond?

Just for fun.

In Egypt, the Pharaoh demanded to be worshiped as a God.

In that instance, a non-Christian religion was also government and forced people to worship the government in the form of Pharaoh.

I can tell you that nearly every Democrat I
have encountered on ATS wants to see
Christianity abolished in the US.

You can tell people that, but it doesn't make it true.

I don't buy your assertion that any career
politician Democrats are openly and proudly
Christians.

No one asserted that! You're making things up again!

Why? Because Democrats think that all
Christians are homophobic,
that all Christians are out to "convert"
or "get" them,
that all Christians want to end all
abortion and that all Christians
are misogynistic.

And Christians think that all
Democrats are homosexuals,
that all Democrats are out to end all
religion on the planet,
that all Democrats want everyone to
have abortion parties and that all
Democrats are feminazis.

See how far that kind of ignorant generalization and stereotyping get you?

The original "pilgrims" who came from the Netherlands and England left their homelands (and came here) because the Monarch was to be respected as the annointed one, chosen by God. And the Monarch wanted them to believe a certain way.

It was a mess. But,

if you know nothing about the English Civil War, Oliver Cromwell, King Charles, Bloody Mary, Elizabeth, et al, then attitudes and misperceptions like yours are to be expected. Sad, though.

Hey - ever heard of Bill Burr?

I was watching a fantastic special by him this afternoon, and thought I might post it here, about how people "outgrow" religion - but, it's got lots of 'profanity' and so forth. You'd probably be offended.

(Name of special: I'm Sorry You Feel That Way). It's on Netflix now. From last year.
Probably some clips on youtube, but I don't want to upset your delicate sensibilities.

Funny I have YET to meet anyone who wants a theocracy...ever I have seen Pat Robertson speak about his faith when he ran but he wasn't going to use it as a basis of government.
NO Tea Party would put up with it.

I agree. I know some highly religious people, and even they enjoy having their religion separate from the government. They do make political decisions (who to vote for, what bills/laws to support) from their religious viewpoint ... but that's not quite the same.

Its in everyone's best interest to keep the government totally out of the religion business. The tiny minority religions are protected right along with the big ones. And someday, those big ones may be the minority and be glad the government doesn't have any opinions or positions on religion.

You are correct.

Jesus himself was against a theocracy.

If Jesus said NO to a theocracy on earth
why would any Christian or
Tea Party member want to establish one?

He clearly said His kingdom was not
of this earth. He also said he did not
come to conquer the earth and become
a ruler. Jesus was against having
a theocracy.

This is a misconception by many who
think they know what the Bible or Jesus says
but only get their ideas from people who
hate religion and Christianity.
Thereby perpetuating a false narrative
started by anti-theists to make people
fear Christians and Christianity in order
to destroy Christianity.

I remember the middle ages when the POPE was supreme NOBODY wants that at all.
So what's all this BS about an intent to do so?
Leaders who have FAITH?
THAT isn't a theocracy,it's an individual's religion,so far as I've know, we NEVER have elected an athieist.

What would he say about Bernie Sanders, I wonder?

What's your hunch on that?

Or, sorry - I mean, your verdict; since you know so much about Democrats and Jesus and everything...what's your verdict about how Jesus would feel about Bernie Sanders' ideas?

Yeah, so far as you know.
That doesn't mean we haven't. Just that some candidates keep their faith where it belongs - SEPARATE from their "political jobs". That's the way it is SUPPOSED to be.

A candidate's religion should have NOTHING to do with their platforms or behavior when submitted for a vote, or when elected to office.

You are right knowingly.

Obama is a Christmas/Easter only Christian at best.

I think he qualifies as an atheist at heart.

At least I don't think he is a Muslim.

And the country is messed up so badly it may not be fixable
after 8 years under an atheist at heart.
I am basing my assumption on his actions.

So - you're calling HIM a liar also!

Jesus Pleezus, you are just all over the place with this silly goose-chase.....

If you don't answer my question about what "Jesus" would say about Bernie Sanders' ideas, I'll just ask someone else to ask you. Since you refuse to answer my posts. Gave you sources refuting your statement that no Democrats believe in God, and also mentioned the English Civil War.

Are you going to address those? Or not?

Check "YES" or "NO."

All GOP voters think he's a liar, a Muslim, and a Commie. Right? We know that.
And ALL Dem voters are atheists. Right? You all think that, right?

gma is tripping herself up is all......and I'm interested to see how she digs her way out of the hole she's dug here.

But, in any case, what do YOU think, cav? What would "Jesus" think about Bernie Sanders' platform and policies?

Take your time....think it over.

Yep, and I as a Christian don't care if the outsider is
a Christian or not.

I want anyone but a career politician.
Career politicians led to our country being so deeply
in debt that banks are considering negative interest rates,
or charging us for storing our money.
