guess I was hoping to never see this in my lifetime and it is crazy how fast this insanity (in my opinion) has spread in less than a decade. I guess the dumbed down US education system has succeeded in political indoctrination since they can't teach anything else but propaganda.

But why is this not surprising? Most people would support getting a lot of things free. The problem comes in when you start telling people that they are going to be paying for that free stuff with declining wages higher taxes a bigger more big brotherly government, etc.

Once you start telling people how it all gets paid for Socialism all of sudden doesn't sound like such a good idea to most people.

I think the kind of socialism people supports is the democratic socialism which is nothing like ehat you stated about relieving of property.
Also, fines and inprisonment happens in every country and in every kind of ggovernment type. Social democratic countries are in no way worse than america on that point.

Here in the U.K we gave people the right to buy their council owned homes. That was under a Conservative Government, one so wrapped up in capitalism that we were force fed it from the moment we were starting school.

They sold off all the state assets including oil, railways, Gas, Electricity and Royal Mail, to name the most recognisable.

These companies when owed by the state always went over budget, they still do, the only difference being the share holders get a decent dividend and the management receive very good renumeration packages.

The only reason socialism is on the rise is because we are living through the failures of capitalism. While there are dangers to uncontrolled socialism, the same is true with capitalism.

The idea fed to the masses of socialism bad/capitalism provides employment etc keeps the people feeling that the govt will always provide a safety net. The reality is that the bailout of "too big to fail banks' and endless printing of money to stimulate economies went into overdrive in socialist and capitalist countries.

Who benefitted? It certainly wasn't Joe Average

The only way to attempt to enforce equality in everything is have rigid top down control imposed on everyone and everything. That means no liberty, no freedom. Life in a cage.

I prefer freedom even if it means there is some inequality because I like living my own life.

Socialism is not "taking from other people."

There are many different ideas about socialism as an economic system, and, shock and awe, we have incorporated many socialistic elements in our economy from the BEGINNING of this country.

We have always had a mixed economy, and we CERTAINLY have had for the full duration of the lives of any who are posting here.

To pretend otherwise is to indulge in dishonestly, hypocrisy, ignorance ... or that special combination of all three.
