Bernie Sanders' Religion is Collectivism

I've been saying for a long time that statism (in it's various forms and with all it's appendages) is a kind of religion. Ol' Bernie here unwittingly gives us a little taste of what I'm talking about. Kimmel jumps on the fact that Bernie says "God forbid" in response to a potential victory by an ideological opponent. He asks Bernie if he does in fact believe in God...

...and Sanders uses the opportunity to launch into a campaign tirade about his socialist ambitions. Coming from a statist like Sanders, I find it more than predictable that a question about belief in God would be re-directed into a social justice sound byte.

It's also completely despicable. He's playing campaign politics with his spirituality, because he can't come right out and say he's a theist because that will alienate all the brainwashed atheists who are most likely to vote for him. He can't say he's an atheist either, because an atheist will never be elected (unless TPTB want him in power, in which case there's nothing anyone can do about it).

His answer is non-committal either way, but it does seem to favor the substitution of Daddy Government for Heavenly Father:

Bernie Sanders, do you believe in God? Or is your religion statist-collectivism (socialism), as your comments may lead many to believe.

God forbid you should answer a question directly.

Bernie Sanders has no character (surprise, surprise, right?). I normally don't wade too deep into political threads, but I saw this and it just kinda pissed me off.

Masterful redirection into something else, as to not have to directly answer the question for fear of losing a base that might be opposed to any religious views.........

However that makes me lose respect for him, hes so hard lined on so many of his beliefs, why avoid this one?

People respect honesty, stand on that Bernie

I dont agree with his policies but, I respected the fact he stood on them.......

this coupled with his backing down of the BLM protesters, makes me wonder if he has the intestinal fortitude to be steadfast when the situation calls for it as president........

Who cares whether he believes in God? I doubt any of his supporters, atheist or theist, give a damn about whether he believes in God or not. They haven't supported him up to this point based on his belief or lack thereof, so why would they abandon support based on the same thing? His policies are what have people behind him, not his religion.

He's running for president, not Pope.

I dont think thats true, some of the main points against some of the GOP nominees is thier religion , their belief in Christianity

Which is funny to me because the mantra use to be "So what if Obama is Muslim, his religion doesnt matter"

Now i hear a lot of "OH Cruz is Christian fundamentalist" "Oh Carson is 7th day Adventist"

Religion only "doesnt" matter when the right person is in place for the "cause"

Make no mistake , someones faith makes all the difference to some

The question was BS anyway, no one should care what his private faith is so much as what he stands for. One thing I like about Bernie is he doesn't allow the message to get side tracked by bull#. If you play into the media, ect with their bullcrap you'll end up answering stupid crap all day and never get what people need to hear actually out there.

This is a stupid premise. How can someone "play politics" with themselves? He can say whatever he wants, or do Democrats not get freedom of speech?

And how is caring about people in your society not relevant to religion? You conservatives are pretty screwed in the head when you think religion means the opposite of caring about people.

Nowhere did I use the word "communism".

He answered a question about his belief in God with a deflection into his belief in state-collectivism.

Does that not suggest ideological substitution?

Exactly. Most people don't care one bit about a politicians religion, unless the party platform is geared to pay lip service to a specific religion. I.E. the GOP.

I found his answer quite applicable. "We are all in this together". That view is what matters when it comes to a presidential candidate, not whether or not he believes in god.

That's an irrelevant and silly question.

It suggests to me that it's A: None of your business, and what he said sounded more to me like:

It's not what I believe or what you believe so long as you care about more than the worship of the almighty dollar.

I don't want godless people in charge. I don't want anyone "in charge", for that matter, but least of all people who have no connection to something greater than themselves.

They simply cannot be trusted, in my opinion. Not with that much power and responsibility.

No way.

I think you might be reading to much into it. He implies that his "spirituality" compels him to help those who are in need which is what his policies show.

Socialism and communism are not the same thing.

Go read a book.
