Our galaxy in one 46BILLION pixel picture: Explore the biggest ever interactive image of the Milky Way ever made

Astronomers from the University of Bochum in Germany have created the largest interactive image of the Milky Way. The image created is 194GB, but can be viewed using a special tool they developed.

Here is a direct link to the imaging tool and image:

Thank you for this story, I would love to see the image, unfortunately the direct link that has been posted to the special tool does not work, is that browser specific?

It might take awhile for the tool to load. The image is around 190 GB in size. I'm at work and I've let it sit for twenty minutes now. My work doesn't have the best internet though. I might have to wait until I get home.

What I have loaded is absolutely stunning.

Nice! I was looking for one of these. Is the picture aligned with galactic coordinates?
