Hey there everyone. I had recently watched a short video on the amazing eyes of the Mantis Shrimp

This little fella is just the most ridiculous creature on earth; Not just with it's sight. It can actually punch something so hard that the impact creates electricity and completely evaporates the water around the impact, leaving a void of heated gas that is hotter than the surface of the sun...

If that's not enough to impress you, it's eyes are just absurdly amazing. Most people have three types of light detecting cells. The mantis shrimp has 12-16 in the middle band of its eye alone! It has the ability to see UV, visible and polarised light, with far better accuracy than a human's eyes. A single eye has three separate areas that point to a single direction, giving it the ability to see depth with just one eye. Their eyes can move independently from one another as well. I can go on and on about it's complexity, but i'll leave the mystery up to you if you're still interested in researching.

Instead, I'll let you gaze upon these awesome iris' of the animal (and other) kingdom!

Enjoy

Haha !
Yes the mantis shrimp is a very strong little guy!
Made the mistake of putting one in an aquarium. He literally punched a hole through the glass. Thank eff it was just a 10 gal nano. He was the only thing that survived in that aquarium after he drained it.
I was very happy my fish store took him back and gave me a refund.

The violet eyes with the ring of green is rather interesting.

My eyes are a rather peculiar color of blue that ranges from violet to steel gray, depending on lighting and mood. However, mine have striations and "crystalline" filaments very similar to the violet eyes pictured above.

Nice array... ty.

The llama eyes are wild... totally look like a deep sea creature in an aquarium... which, now that I think about it, can be said of all eyes, in a sense... they're just sea critters with a lens and more nerves than usual.

After I read this:

theoatmeal.com...

I had to read every comic on his website. Most were pretty cool. But then I found this:

wildthings.sarahzielinski.com...

Still pretty cool though. It seems they have the rods/cones to see and/or discern between a zillion colors, but maybe just dont have the brain power to make use of them fully. There must be some reason why they have them. I wonder what scientists could do with that to enhance human vision?
