I just heard that early sales of star wars 7 tickets crashed a website. Really?

deadline.com...

How in the world did a half baked space opera ever get so popular? The plot holes alone are enough to keep it off the great movie list.
So let me get this straight.
Your going to hide a kid on his father's home planet.
Your going to give him the father's last name.
Your going to leave him with dad's brother.
Good plan!
So why did he Luke have to work his butt off making water all day but his sister gets to be a princess?
Luke got the shafts on that deal.

I like star wars but I don't get the frenzy. Especially after the 3 turd prequels Lucas gave us...

Am I the only one that feels this way?

You are not alone.
The first three were cool when I was a kid.
I saw the first Star Wars at a drive-in when I was 5 years old and it was awesome.
The prequels were a big disappointment.
Hopefully they get it right this time around.
I won't be waiting in any long lines to see it.

They are basically my favorite movies ever.. (1 2 and 3 don't have the same feel I describe below, but the preview for 7 makes me feel it)
And I was never told they should be. I just watched them and fell in love.

For me, it's the epic feel of them. No other movies feel as grand. I'm always searching for any other movies that have that amazing feel.

I love the emotions, and the philosophy of the Force.. It's kind of about as deep as you can get, and as far out as you can get.. Inner and outer space.

If another movie did that same thing better I would like it too.

Movies like Avatar are like kindergarten compared. It's not something I can put into words, beyond saying I love star wars. I dunno..

It's like a lot of things... It's nostalgia.... also It's the fact that the originals were so weird and different to most other films.
People just took to them.

They're definitely not up there with the greatest achievements in film ever from a technical perspective or in terms of acting or whatever, but hey... some things can't be tested and measured and analysed.
People just LOVE Star Wars.

It is what it is man.

Maybe I'm just picky.
I thought avatar was just dances with wolves in space. So I agree with you there..

The music of star wars is maybe what does a good part of it too.
where I forget most music.. I can get star wars stuck in my head at any moment, and then I see the movie playing.
I've watched the matrix movie way more than star wars, but I don't remember any of that music..
but Darth vader walks in.. Bam..

It speaks to my need to save the universe from the evil empire duh!

lol

While I enjoyed the first 3 when I was young I never understood the following it has.

The newer movies that came out turned me right off to the whole thing.

I enjoy this clip more than I ever did the movies.

I think nostalgia is a big factor.

You don't see many people fondly remembering the more recent films.

I think peoples absurdly high expectations for the new one will be it's undoing.

Some of the best movies I ever saw were ones that I had poor or no expectations for.

I like the first three Star Wars movies a lot. I also really love Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan. I also get the same feeling playing the first Mass Effect game and there are parts of the third Mass Effect that take me there too like the Tuchanka mission, it hits ALL the right notes.

I don't know if I'll get that feeling from this movie, but the Star Wars universe is built to be able to deliver. It has the necessary elements. What it needs is the right storyteller.

I'm with skunkape on this, cool when I was little, I didn't get past the first prequel and I'm not waiting in any long lines either.

But he was cool looking and sold tons of toys

The first movies were good, they made many especial effects for them and people really dint saw things like that before, then for altmost two decades there was the expanded universe that build a universe from the few things in the movies, and then George Lucas made jar jar and everything went to ruins.

People that saw stars wars in their youth will bring the kids and grand kids to see the movie out of nostalgia and curiosity, haters will see it to see what they can hate out of it, and most importantly, after Lucas ruined his baby more than a decade ago he made this movie a favor, it will be a hit, even if it sucks, jut for people wanting a good redemption tale.

Well to answer your one question - Luke went to Tatooine because Obi Wan was keeping an eye on him while Leia went to Alderon so her 'father' Bail Organa could keep an eye on her.
